Okay, I read it. Nowhere in there did Perry support the DREAM Act. ln fact, he said we can’t reform immigration until we secure the border.
Now, I can see why you might interpret his comment about not deporting 12 million people as being open to some form of amnesty. However, when I look at it in context, my take-away is that he sees the process of moving 12 million people out of the county as a logistical and financial nightmare. He suggests we come up with a solution that addresses that “reality” without disenfranchising legal immigrants.
Whether or not that’s possible is another debate, but his larger point was that we must close the border first. Then we can have that debate. FWIW, Bobby Jindal and Rand Paul have voiced similar sentiments.
