The House of Representatives passed legislation Wednesday afternoon to make the fine/tax for violating Obamacares individual mandate $0 for this year, and it did so by the wide margin of 90 votes (250 to 160). Thats 83 more than the 7-vote margin (219 to 212) by which Obamacare passed the House four Marches ago. Moreover, 27 Democrats voted for todays legislation27 more than the number of Republicans who voted for Obamacare when it passed. In all, 223 Republicans voted for todays bill, while only onePaul Broun of Georgiavoted against it. Heres the member-by-member tally for the vote.
Earlier today, the Obama White House released a 3-paragraph statement on the legislation, noting that Obamacare helps millions of Americans stay on their parents plans until age 26which, of course, has nothing to do with the individual mandate or the fine/tax for violating itand saying that if President Obama were presented with the legislation, he would veto it.
Given the wide margin by which the legislation passed the House, along with the significant level of bipartisan support with which it passed, perhaps the Senate will actually take a vote, pass the bill, and give Obama that chance. That would provide a welcome reminder to the American people of the extent to which Obamas centerpiece legislation relies upon coercion.
But it also relies on lawlessnessa fact that is becoming more apparent by the day. Within hours of threatening to veto this legislative change to Obamacare, Obama announced that he is again making an executive change to Obamacare, in plain defiance of the legislative text, the rule of law, and the constitutional separation of powers. No wonder left-leaning constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley says that we are at a constitutional tipping point and that Congress must act to stop this presidents dangerous, destabilizing aggregation of power.
He is completely out of control domestically. The entire world can see this. They have to move to contain him. What he does domestically, he does internationally.
They should have made the fine/tax $1.00. Then it could be considered as a revenue bill.
Its the one with Obama’s face on the front and his wife’s whatever on the backside
And those aren’t watermarks
He may be forced to, with the help of Dem senators running in red and purple states, who are very, very scared.
9$ — I like the sound of that!
I had this tag line last September.
Let him veto it. The Dems own this mess.
It’ll be the one with Obama’s face on it, just like Slick Times used to print $3 bills with Bill’s face on them. Will Zero veto it?
On the back, in Arabic letters, Bismillah arrahim warrahman...Anaa ashhadulyawm...
So now they can alter a law which is unalterable?
There is no severability clause...D89k heads...
the 27 dems who voted for it are the important take from this. they are a potential weakness to exploit.
This is where the rubber meets the road for the liberals, either they tow the political and ideology line ? or they get voted out by a angery people.
And the Senate will do what?? Pass it?? And Obama will do what...sign it??
Exactly....another wasted day of taxpayer money by the people that are elected to represent US.
Another day that we go with no answers to the IRS targeting conservative groups.
Another day Bengazi gets covered up deeper and deeper
Another day a usurper sits in office
Another day my hemp rope goes unused....
Well good. Let the people see obozo will not sign it. As he does that, he can watch his approval drop to the teens.
These clowns in Washington play the American people like a fiddle all day long.
The authority of executive orders does not trump the authority of federal law duly passed by Congress and signed by the President. As you are well aware, the President has no right to an opinion of the law with regards to its enactment nor does he have any other option but to enforce it as written. Also, as I'm sure that you know, it was codified in the body of the law that only Congress has the authority to change any aspect of the law, not the President. The degree to which he can arrogate to himself this phantom authority with no reaction from Congress is the degree that his actions threaten the principle of the rule of law in this country. Jonathan Turley is right. Remember, this country is still a Great Experiment in democracy and this a$$clown is trying to make it a failed one.
What about all the taxes hidden in Obamacare?
