Unrelated to the actual subject matter, it is always amusing to see this type of common terminology:
“Why has nature chosen such...”
The tree hugger's god.
It means that “nature” made intelligent choices, or at least benefitted from them
but don’t dare say “intelligent design” because that isn’t “science”
