All the cats are from the Family Felidae

Genus makes all the difference. While mountain lions in the 'boot heel' of New Mexico can get big, 190#, they are still in a the same Genus.

Mountain lions Genus Puma

Jaguar Genus Panthera (same as tigers, lions, leopards)

Cougs is Cougs, Jaguar is a whole nother animal, in size and style.

Thank you, I did not know that. I live in mountain lion country and they are all around here, so I was wondering. Now I’ll search for some jaguar photos.

I realize that Jaguars are different but why is it a bad thing if they are put in a part of the country where big cats already live and thrive? Grizzles and Black bears live in the same habitat and there are big cats living there as well.
