In my opinion Stockman threw the race.

I feel like we’ve been had. The RNC seems to have implemented a new strategy in protecting their incumbents during primaries. Get a Tea Party backed candidate to run to pull just enough votes away from anyone else that might get traction, but have them purposely not try to win.

Stockman wasn't Tea-Party backed. Stovall was.

Actually... come to think of it... The RNC been doing the same thing in presidential primaries... have their preferred RINO candidate run HARD against any conservatives on the ballot, get one or more real conservatives to run but only half heartedly. If any of them start to get traction, have the self destruct on purpose. Once the nomination is secure, have the RINO back away from the race and let the Democrat win.

Both McCain and Romney did this. Only really tried in the primary, while basically intentionally throwing the race against Obama without even putting up a fight.

It certainly appears that way. Stockman was Cornyn's stalking horse, either by design or ineptitude.
