Today, a Supervisor with the Department of Homeland Security called a member of our legal team to inform us that the Romeike family has been granted indefinite deferred status. This means that the Romeikes can stay in the United States permanently (unless they are convicted of a crime, etc.)
This is an incredible victory that can only be credited to our Almighty God.
We also want to thank those of who spoke up on this issueincluding that long ago White House petition. We believe that the public outcry made this possible while God delivered the victory.
Via Home School Legal Defense Association . Michael Farris, chairman for the Home School Legal Defense Association, announced Tuesday afternoon that a supervisor with the Department of Homeland Security said that a Morristown family has been granted indefinite deferred status.
Essentially this means that Uwe and Hannelore Romeike and their children can stay in the United States permanently unless they commit a crime or otherwise violate the terms of their status.
The Romeikes immigrated to America from Germany after running afoul of a German law requiring children attend public school or an approved private school offering the state-approved curriculum. The Romeikes, conservative Christians who objected to several parts of the state curriculum, preferred to home school their children.
In refusing to send their children to public school, the Romeikes racked up heavy fines and faced the threat of having their children removed from their home. They left for America before that could happen.
Once in Morristown, they began the long process of seeking political asylum, which was initially granted in 2010, but lost on appeal. In the four years since, the case worked its way to the steps of the Supreme Court which Monday announced it would not hear the case, leaving several of the Romeikes supporters in fear that the family would be deported.
Roughly 24 hours later, that was no longer a fear.
The fact that Tennesseans were up in arms over this, vowing civil disobedience, seems to be overlooked on this thread as a reason why this ruling against the Romeike family has been overturned. Hats off to the Tennesseans who rallied for these foks!
Praise God!
With all polls indicating Democrats are headed to the crapper this fall, the last thing Obama needs to do is boot this family and rile up the Red Staters.
They are getting to stay due to crass politics.
.... and faced the threat of having their children removed from their home. They left for America before that could happen.
Give it time they’ll be fleeing the US as well. Won’t be long before it’ll be against the law to home school here. Common Core Curriculum is already being planned for home schools and private schools.
We also need to encourage this German family to entice some of their friends in Germany that homeschool to come and settle here!!
Honestly, I don’t think it is the Court’s duty to bail them out - we always rail against activist courts on this site, and here’s a case in which proper restraint was exercised.
Mind you, I’m very pleased at this (Stunning) development - and I’m now just hoping that whoever stuck their neck out at DHS can make the decision stand up.
Thank You, God. We all needed this encouragement and I am so happy for this family.
[ the Romeikes can stay in the United States permanently (unless they are convicted of a crime, etc.) ]
Holder is probably conducting an anal exam right now to see if any of the kids jaywalked...
Praise God for this!
So the bureaucrats and lawyers over here have nearly finished using terror to rob them. That’s great news!
Finally, some good news
While I'm grateful to God for this turn of events, it is staggering that some piddly bureaucrat appears to have this much discretion.
They probably don’t. They were probably told to make the call from higher up I would bet?
Might not be so easy to do in Tennessee.
I’m so thankful for whoever came to their senses. This story had me FUMING yesterday.
So, does this mean that DHS is more powerful than the Supreme Court?
That is 2 branches of Govt. to be ignored by this administration.
Praise God!
I remember thinking that the US should have just granted Elian Gonzales citizenship here, and then work with the World Court to figure out how it should be handled.
I think the Romeike family should consider that route as well, because they can easily be betrayed.
Some good news for a change.
