Sen. Mike Lee is endorsing Ben Sasse in the Nebraska Senate GOP primary contest, giving the president of Midland University the support of another high-profile conservative and tea party favorite in the tight Republican race.
Nebraskans need Ben Sasse to represent their values, reformers in the Senate need his conservative vote, our country needs his voice, Mr. Lee said in a statement. Ben Sasse is a strong constitutional conservative who understands the proper role of government, has great respect for our democratic institutions, and will fight to ensure that the peoples voice is heard in Washington.
Mr. Sasse, a former health official in the administration of George W. Bush, has won the backing of Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican, and Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, as well as the Senate Conservatives Fund, Club for Growth and Family Research Council.
Whoever wins the Republican primary race is expected to go on to win the general election and replace retiring GOP Sen. Mike Johanns.
A recent Harper Polling survey showed Mr. Sasse is in a statistical tie with Shane Osborn, a former state treasurer - with Mr. Osburn winning 30 percent of the 565 likely Republican primary voters polled and Mr. Sasse securing 29 percent.
The poll, which had a margin of error of 4 percent, found that Sid Dinsdale, a bankers, received 13 percent and Bart McLeay received 4 percent.
Mr. Lee said that Mr. Sasse realizes that Republicans need to offer voters a clear conservative agenda.

Re: the title of the thread: (Take that; Mitch!!!). Just wondering what that has to do with Nebraska. Is Mitch backing Osborn?
Mike Lee (and Ted Cruz) should seize the moment and endorse Matt Bevin for Senator from Kentucky. That would get Mitch McConnell’s attention, big time.
“Re: the title of the thread: (Take that; Mitch!!!). Just wondering what that has to do with Nebraska. Is Mitch backing Osborn?”
Yeah, Mitch didn’t much like being criticized in Sasse’s youtube ad. Then he chewed out Sasse in his office when Sasse dropped by for a courtesy call. See below story.
He endorsed a primary opponent over a sitting Senator?
Ouch... that’s gonna leave a mark
I don’t think he will get a warm reception back at work :)
We have two good candidates here..they should find a way to get one of them to run for Governor..
Yeah, I knew about that. But, I thought that, in spite of all of that, Mitch was still endorsing Sasse. Guess I got some incorrect info.
“He endorsed a primary opponent over a sitting Senator?”
No, it’s an open race. Johannes is retiring after one term. He would have been primaried anyway.
No, no, no. This is an “Open Seat”. Sasse and Osborn are running to replace retiring GOP Sen. Mike Johanns.

FYI..OTOH, PHyllis Schlafly endorsed Osborn

She (eagle forum) also endorsed mike Johannes. Look how that turned out. He became a rino in record time. He voted for chuck Hagel the traitor. We’ve been lied to here in Nebraska too many times. Endorsements from someone who gave us bad leaders in the past should say something. I used to like Schflay, but she apparently likes rinos.
I’m going with Ben Sasse.
Is Sasse from Fremont, Nebraska? So that means he knows 60% of votes oppose amnesty?
The Paul Ryan endorsement is just about fiscal issues?
He was better than Hagel on amnesty.
Before the campaign season began, Sen. Cruz stated that he would not involve himself in any race involving an incumbent Republican.
The primary reason for taking this position was to avoid endorsing his fellow Texas Senator, John Cornyn.
This is on Sasse website
The Federal Government’s primary responsibility is to protect Americans from enemies foreign and domestic. The American people are not safe unless we know who is entering and leaving our country. Neither Party has been willing to get serious about border security, dating back to the mid-80s when a Republican president agreed to amnesty in exchange for promises of securing the border later. It never happened.
President “You can keep your doctor” Obama refuses to lead on this issue because he is more concerned about turning Texas into a Democrat state than he is about solving the problem. Republicans must not make a deal with President Obama. We must secure the border. End of story.
Johanns was a sellout. I called or emailed his office to the point I think they knew me by my voice.
