Students at Central Connecticut State University flipped on their computers and waited anxiously for an email that would give them the chance to see President Obama speak at their school on Wednesday.
Every single computer was full, said student Keanii Munoz, who stopped first at the science lab, then headed to the student union in search of a free machine. Everybodys been trying to register.
The link to reigster arrived around noon in a much-anticipated email. Students refreshed their inboxes until the message came, then hoped luck was on their side as they clicked through.
I finally got the email at 12:08, said CCSU student Ethan Sadoian. It took several attempts to get into the registration page [but] I finally did.
It was too late for Sadoian. He logged onto the Web site to find the 1,000-plus tickets had already been reserved.
Munoz, on the other hand, was more fortunate.
Im really excited, he said. I was definitely not going to miss an opportunity to see Obama.
...
Obama will focus on his push to raise the minimum wage. Hell be joined by Gov. Dannel Malloy, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin.

Yes, there are golf courses nearby... TPC of River Highlands is where the PGA’s Traveler’s Greater Hartford Open is played. Nice course on the Connecticut River. In New Britain, Stanley Golf Course (named for the founders of Stanley Works) is nice.
They are covered with a nice coating of Global Warming though.
The Northeast is a cancer on the Republic.
A dreamer on Craigslist is asking $400 for a single ticket. The chance to make a quick buck is probably why they went so fast.
Is Hussein in Conn to check on the gun roundup?
I miss snowmobiling... but better weather here.
Capitalism at work.
Morons. Flocking to hear the guy who’s screwing their future.
The gem of the public universites in CT is UConn, the “Universisty of Connecticut” which has an undergrad campus in Storrs, in the east central part of the state, and separate professional schools (law, medicine, etc). For in-state students whose academic record (less than about a “B”) won’t get them into UConn, there are the “State University” campuses (Central, Eastern, Western and Southern CT State U’s). Central in New Britain probably has the highest non-white enrollment. All of them are liberal. Biden, for instance, came and made his anti-2nd amendment speech at Western CT State U after the Newtown shootings. That was the school Adam Lanza had attended.
There are golf courses in the area, some good ones as mentioned by previous posters. But we have about a foot of snow on the ground now, and the ground is frozen. Doubt B0 would be planning a round in this area. More likely coming to hang out with his pal Duval.
Future college grads excited about information on the minimum
wage.
Shoot for the stars, kids.
Obama has frequently visited CT since 08, even befrore Sandy Hook. IIRC, much more often than other NE states. I suspect Malloy wants to go to DC. He acts like the kind of “leader” that is not content with controlling citizens of just one state.
Kind of sounds like trying to sign up for BOcare
That’s exactly what I thought too.
Why talk to college students about minimum wage. Isn’t that precisely why they’re at college, to avoid it?
Well, that is one way to create fake demand. Only give out 1,000 tickets !!!
The school has 11,155 students.
484 part time Faculty.
434 full time Faculty.
918 Total
The article states that students got twice as many tickets as the faculty did.
So the audience will be 2/3 students (66%) or 666 and 1/3 faculty (33%) or 333.
So, about 33% of the faculty will be going to the event.
SHUT DOWN THE SCHOOL FOR THE DAY, AIN’T NO TEACHERS LEFT !
Pictures of the venue: http://www.ccsubluedevils.com/facilities/detrick/index
You could not hold a gun on me and make me take a ticket to see and hear that bastard.
Looks like they are not opening the full stadium. Seating is 2,654.
So 1/2 seating is 1,327... So likely they will only be seating on one side of the Stadium.
“William H. Detrick Gymnasium is a 2,654-seat multi-purpose arena in New Britain, Connecticut. It is home to the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils basketball team. It opened in 1965. In 2005 it received a new floor, the first since the facility opened its doors in 1965. [1] The Northeast Conference men’s basketball tournament was held there in 1998, 2002, and 2007.”
“Morons like these help to explain tyrants like this. These idiots DESERVE each other”
True, but the rest of us deserve better.
