MSNBC host Rachel Maddow charged Monday that the George W. Bush administration's Middle East policy has steered America's current security policy and response to global crises including the one in Ukraine.
Talking about her new documentary, "Why We Did It," involving circumstances leading to the Iraq War, Maddow told MSNBC colleague Andrea Mitchell that the Bush administration is largely responsible for the nation's current course overseas.
The decisions of our generation on national security are determined more than anything by what the George W. Bush administration did with that nine-year war in Iraq and, alongside it, a 13-year war in Afghanistan thats still going on," she told Mitchell. "And the American people are against those wars."
Those are the determinative constraints for our thinking about everything, she continued, from Crimea, to Syria, to what the overall size of the U.S. military is.
Maddow said her documentary concludes that if the United States is to avoid "these kind of protracted foreign occupations, like we did under the previous president, we cant effectively make good decisions about that until we understand why we did that."
"We know the public case for why we went to Iraq was not true," Maddow said, adding that her findings for the documentary were "disturbing."
"It's getting at the question that needs to be answered," she said.
Mitchell, agreeing with Maddow's premise, noted that the Bush administration's policies impacted "every other decision we make why the president decided not to go ahead with airstrikes against Bashar al-Assad on Labor Day weekend.

I knew it had to be either GWB or the TEA Party.
It’s rare that you and I agree on anything about Russia, but on this one, you and I agree :-)
Rachel MadCow is an idiot!
Why not? GWB and/or the Tea Party is the cause of every bad thing from flat tires to cancer. B-P
More than 24-hours.
The Left is losing its touch.
Wow, it took them how many months to blame Bush? I thought they were losing their touch..
BTW, where are these a-hole “anti war” and “no occupation” protestors anyways?
So, it's official: Maddow is disturbed.
Bushes fault! Everybody drink! (My liver is very glad I’m not really playing that game.)
Someone was right when he said that liberalism is a mental disease. This stuff is getting old.
FIVE WHOLE YEARS that Barry-O has his hands on the steering wheel and it STILL goes where George pointed it?
Nice try ,Mr. Maddow!!!
Bush has been out of office for six years; yet we’re informed he’s still responsible for anything bad happening, anywhere in the solar system. Meanwhile, we’re given to believe that Clinton was in no way responsible, for an event that took place less than 8 months after he left office.
well, wasn’t Obama supposed to fix all that with a reset policy? Why isn’t it working after five years?
Don’t blame Bush for the failure of the ONE.
Pathetic.
No wonder only the loons watch that idiot cable channel.
It’s not news. It’s propaganda.
Or Reagan. If he hadn’t won the cold war, none of this would be happening.
Given that the entire foreign policy of the United States has been set in stone by a fellow named Bush, there wasn’t much point in electing 0bama in the first place then, was there? This is beyond pathetic and well into hilarious.
Why anyone should pay any attention to the clip-haired, psychotic shrieking harpy is beyond me.
We are way past the “use by date” for that excuse.
