Are those ‘changes’ of sufficient merit to justify this breathless reporting?
In my opinion, no. The new regulations are, according to the Hill:
1) will grant tribal police access to NICS;
2) authorize law enforcement agencies to use the system to run full background checks before returning guns that have been seized or confiscated during the course of investigations;
3) involves consolidated, electronic storage of information on gun purchases that have been denied via the NICS system.

While I can see potential for abuse, especially considering this WH and the Holder DOJ, 1 and 2 seem like common sense.
And yes, I’m a gun owner and NRA member. But I still don’t see what this has to do with Sandy Hook, which none of these regulations would have remotely prevented.
The three changes are as follows:
* Grant tribal police access to NICS;
* Authorize law enforcement agencies to use NICS to run full background checks before returning guns that have been seized or confiscated during the course of investigations.
* Consolidated, electronic storage of information on gun purchases that have been denied via the NICS system.
I’m with you. What’s the big deal?
I don’t feel any of this infringes on my right to own/use/cary a firearm.
I don’t like EOs, but these are reasonable. We don’t need to be paranoid, and these changes seem fine to me.
