We rented the film the other night. Special FXs were stunning. Bullock delivered a great performance. Soundtrack was good. Clowney was...well, Clowney (one of the most overrated actors in the business). There’s a good reason why I rarely spend my hard earned cash at the theaters. The film is a perfect example. As a whole, Gravity wasn’t worth my time.
The cost isn’t the issue but my time is. I’m a recovering lawyer who still bills more an hour than 3rd world people make in a month. I’m not bragging. It’s just how I make a living and no I’m not rich. Most goes to the church, the government and my kids. But I had to make peace with the fact that no one was going to pay me hundreds of dollars to do the laundry and if I didn’t do it, no one would or at least they wouldn’t do it correctly. LOL So if I start watching a Netflix movie and decide it isn’t worth my time, I can find another one. This weekend I watched Great Expectations and decided that David Lean was my new favorite director. I began to watch The Passionate Friend and was bored ten minutes in although I love Claude Rains. But not enough to watch it. If I were in a college class and was studying long dreamy shots of black and white patterns and reflections in the water, I would watch it but otherwise no.
