You’re pretty tightly wound up. Maybe gun control threads aren’t for you.

I’ve been here for 15 years. That’s the first time anyone has complained. I’ve seen this kind of formatting used all over the place. When FR gets pop-down html buttons, I’ll use them. It can’t be that difficult, I’ve seen other websites using canned software for it.

Sociopaths need their egos stroked, and insulting people makes them feel good. It’s like a drug. They need their fix every day.

That’s the first time anyone has complained. I’ve seen this kind of formatting used all over the place.

You're only one of a handful here that use it.

Most posters around here use quotation marks and paragraph breaks to differentiate between theirs, and the other poster's comments. Many (like me) go the extra step of italicizing the other guy's comments. Some use a solid line break to separate the comments, but they all work. Point is, some posting formats are easier on the eyes than others.

When FR gets pop-down html buttons, I’ll use them. It can’t be that difficult, I’ve seen other websites using canned software for it.

The basic HTML commands for things like italics and paragraph breaks are really simple. Surely, after fifteen years here, you know them well. If you choose not to use them, I guess that's fine. They just help others to digest what you're posting a lot better.

I've often wished that JohnRob would add a rich text editor to the FR software, but folks here seem to like the old school way this place is set up. I live with it because of the quality of the forum and the people here. There's none better anywhere I've been on the net.

***When I see HTML buttons on my keyboard, or drop-down HTML buttons (I’ve used them on other sites) or even the ability to copy & paste into & out of MSWord, then I’ll be doing that.

Not true. I've mentioned it, and have seen others mention it.

Is perhaps italicizing what you could be quoting of another, and replying to, by using an opening command "<" with a letter i sandwiched between the opening bracket and a closing bracket ">" too much to ask? use the brackets and and the letter, but without quotation marks...

Then, turn the italicizing off with the same exact two angle brackets close on either side of "/i".

A backslash coupled with whatever command preceded, such as the letter b for bold text, or such as

is not that difficult.

The method you use is confusing to readers, and irritating in itself, due to the poor formatting.

Italicizing is easy, and beats quotation marks, or ***kind of thing*** with no paragraph breaks...

Making paragraph breaks with angle-brackets enclosing the letter p, can be helpful.

or not, is a piece of cake.

Ok, I'm lying. It's a few

*** crap ***
WITH NO PARAGRAPH BREAKS

making it a puzzle as to who is saying what, has got to go

15 years...? Learn how to format correctly. Maggot

It takes two to make a circular firing squad

Wouldn't that be more of a linear firing squad? ;)

The “some day” is NOW if they come to your door!

If they come to your door, it's too late.
You should determine the time and place to fight, not them.

That said, it might be wise for those in CT to stock up on foodstuffs, rations, medical supplies and start building alert/alarm-and-muster networks.

Wise and good suggestions. When they come to your door ,like you say, it is too late and one way or the other, it will be over shortly. And those that believe that the police will believe the ,”I lost my gun[s] in a boating accident” or excuses of that genre are in for a rude awakening.

15 years...? Learn how to format correctly.

I saw no reason to do so.

In reality, all that stuff you wrote about italics was WHY I chose not to, because back in the day we had tons of problems with italics and we used to say: Close your Italians!

I knew it was a matter of coding and some software dude getting around to doing it.

Eventually, someone will tell me that I should have learned how to do colored text as well. I'll have to wait for the update.

too much to ask?

Yes. It was.

Not true. I've mentioned it, and have seen others mention it.

You didn't say, "Your formatting sucks". You just commented on it, and my response has not varied. I even recall that someone agreed with me and posted to JimRob that they would donate a bunch of extra money to FR if he'd just upgrade that capability.

Italicizing requires only one angle bracket to open or begin htm command, the bracket to the lower left on most keyboards which point faces left, then the letter i (it can even be capital letter I, it doesn't matter) followed by the other angle bracket, the one who's point faces to the right, and is itself on the keyboard to the right of the other angle bracket.

To turn it off, just add a backslash / after the first bracket, but before or to the left of where one will next put, without skipping a space, the letter i, followed by the right pointing (or East pointing? if top of keyboard be North) bracket. All consecutive, no skipped spaces. Try it some day, then preview before hitting "post" a second time.

If things don't look right, one can continue to use the preview key, until it looks the way you would like it to.

The "backslash" / key, is the question mark key on keyboard, but without using shift key, or shifting to CAPS-lock. FR is a great place to practice basic formatting.

The preview button allows one to inspect, then make changes. It's almost a perfect learning tool, for that reason.

Colored text is simple too. The command bracket. The one pointing West, shall we say.

Type it. Then type, without using quotation marks themselves (which I will here, just for isolating of what needs be entered) "font color=red" followed immediately (without skipping a space, you know, without hitting the spacebar(?)) by the East pointing bracket ">". Again, without any quotation marks.

To turn off the color, inside or nestled within the West-East brackets < > type first the backslash symbol / followed by the word font. That's basically enough to turn off any preceding font command.

Now may not be the time...but this is as good a place as you otherwise may find... .

Otherwise, coders in the past have had problems with needing to have an active web page somewhere (even if closed to the public for the time being, or just the "back-end" of a web site which had a feature which allowed a test display of changes) which was a hurdle coders of 20 years ago would come across.

The preview function of the combox (as these sort of 'windows' we type into are called elsewhere on the web) here at FR makes it a perfect place to practice.

It's like learning how to ride a bicycle? Except there isn't risk and damage if one falls over. Then, a little bit of html usage can help one search for other coding "tricks" online.

You seem to be able to use brackets to post pics.

Do you code it by hand, typing a left bracket, then img src=
(which means image source url or location I think ) followed by the image location info, then a closing bracket, like > ?

If so --- then you've got it made already. So close...it's all only right around the corner for you. Not hard at all.
