It took filing a lawsuit, but Judicial Watch discovered Friday that President Obama has set a new record for travel on the taxpayer dime.
The conservative watchdog group obtained travel records from the U.S. Department of the Air Force that show the Obamas racked up $7.4 million during just three trips in 2013 – in flight expenses only.
The records, revealed Friday, include the Obama family’s Christmas vacation in Hawaii from Dec. 21, 2012, to Jan. 5, 2013. During that stay, the president took a short break and flew back to Washington to work on a budget deal, then returned for the rest of his vacation.
The second trip was in early August, 2013, when Obama flew to California for a private fundraiser with DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, then appeared with Jay Leno on the “Tonight Show.” Later that month, the Obama family vacationed in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit in August 2013, after repeated stonewalling by the White House. The group reported:

Presidents usually “hide” their personal trip expenses (side trips, fundraisers) by scheduling some innocuous “official” visit, which enables them to stay over and/or add on other stuff that was paid for because of the official visit. Obama doesn’t feel that he has to play those games because he knows that criticism (if any) from the media or congress will be low key.
Bush did leave the US. He was in Iraq for that Thanksgiving, for example.
Yes he did, but that cannot really be called a vacation now, can it? He showed support for the troops.
When has Obama done any Presidential function while flinging to any far away location?

I recall the Clintons going to the Dominican Republic, which was most likely for “show” since it occurred not too long after the Monica Lewinsky thing blew up. There was a staged photo of them dancing on the beach in swimsuits (yuk).
I don’t think they get them free. They’re probably on loan just like they do with celebs who show up at the Academy Awards.

Where the Clinton travel abuse came from (aside from that Travel office) was in the last two years of his presidency. Hillary dragged that loser daughter to every country on earth at government expense. Freepers were having a fit about it as well they might.
On the other hand, given that Hillary had no interest in fashion, we didn’t have to pay for those bloody ball gowns.
