I never give identification information if I call to report a crime in which I’m not the victim. If the dispatcher tries to intimate me, I just tell her my report is on their tape recording and that if she fails to act on the information I provided, then it’s her and her department’s problem if the whole thing blows up in their faces because she failed to act. That usually gets a change of attitude real fast, including inquiry as to more details about the crime being reported.

(Yes, I know they have caller id, but they still don’t know who called from that phone.)

I have a burner phone for such occasions. A burner phone is one of those cheap phones that you can buy from Walmart that can't be linked back to you. And after I make the call, I pull out the battery so the phone can't be tracked by GPS.

And I give the dispatcher a fake name if they ask me for my name. Plus, I throw in a southern accent to make voice recognition difficult.

I do all of this so the bad guys can't find out who I am but it works to keep the LEOs in the dark about my identity.
