It’s not good for the Ukrainians. Can they even trust their own military?
As matter of fact, it is good that the Ukrainian military is not going into a shooting war. The Ukrainian military protects the people; killing them and destroying cities would be a bad way to protect them. So far the people are threatened only by roving bands of Nazis; those bands are, in fact, threatened by both Ukrainian and Russian armies, as they should be.
The current situation cannot be won militarily - at least because there is no specific political problem that can be resolved by military force. This applies to both Ukrainian and Russian armies. Their task at this point is simply to prevent further violence. Crimea, or any other territory, physically cannot be annexed by Russia without approval of the people who live on those territories. If you were the US President, and if you could annex Afghanistan, would you do that and grant all Afghanis free access to the US land?
