Many Americans still remember the joke made by Tina Fey in a return to SNL to play the role of Sarah Palin back in 2008.
While introducing herself, Feys version of Palin stated in a folksy, matter-of-fact way that she could, see Russia from [her] house. As funny as it was at the time, this joke was actually borrowed from an interview with ABC Newss Charlie Gibson:
Palin: We have got to keep our eyes on Russia And, Charlie, youre in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. Theyre very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.
Gibson: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
Palin: Theyre our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
Booth @Boothacus Follow It's so cold I think I can see Sarah Palin from my house.

Palins recent attempt to claim credit for having somehow predicted the troubles in Ukraine in 2008 seems to suggest that she spent a good portion of her time as governor on that Alaskan island, watching the Russians with a kind of giant telescope.
A giant, future-predicting telescope that enabled Palin and Palin alone to know exactly who was doing what in Russia and Ukraine, and to then predict with absolute perfection the exact outcome of ongoing tensions in the region. All of this despite having no access to high levels of intelligent information of American or Russian origin.
Mind-blowing.
All joking aside, it is possible that Palin may have been right about Russia pushing its weight around in order to maintain strategic military positions in countries that border it.
But then, that was never the criticism aimed at Palin back in 2008. The criticism is the idea that anyone who wants to know what Russia is planning can go to an island and stare across the water at Russian land. Proximity alone does not generate intelligence.
That would be like me going to the outskirts of Washington D.C, standing there for a few minutes and saying aloud, You know something? I think that members of Congress are working on passing a bill of some kind. I dont know what kind, but I know theyre there. And I know theres some kind of legislative process happening.
Also, lets not forget the biggest holes in Palins I told you so argument:
- Palin had no way of knowing that hundreds of thousands of people would flood the Ukranian capital in protest of Viktor Yanukovychs pro-Russian agenda.
- She had no way of knowing that protesters would continue their fight despite being exposed to freezing conditions and increasingly hostile Ukranian security forces.
- She did not know that despite the bloodiest confrontation in the nations history, the protesters would ultimately take the capital.
- She did not know that Yanukovych would successfully flee the country instead of being arrested or murdered.
In actuality, despite her smug claims, the only thing shes really attempting to take credit for is something that is obvious to anyone who knows anything about Russias military behaviors in relation to land bordering their country in strategic locations. The sort of things that are well .predictable.
Predictable in a way that does not require setting foot on an island in Alaska to draw such a conclusion. Predictable with or without the mystical future-predicting telescope.
I’d go to war with Sarah over Obamby any day. Yea, she didn’t know about death panels either.
How did we guess it was another affirmative action writer? Perhaps it was the lack of sense and deficiencies in writing skill.
Not at all. She’s not my type, other than being a strong woman. Me? I prefer plump redheads and Asians, though I’ve never married either, I sure did date a lot. LOL
Come on...you drag a crack vial through any news room and they'll write anything ya want.
Incompetence is the highest level of erudite-ism ....
The left intentionally misquoted Sarah and as Governor of Alaska I am sure she had been to the Island she was referring to.
there are two islands in the Bering Staight - Big Diomede and Little Diomede. The big island is Russian and the small one American. They are 1.5 miles from each other. Interestingly, the International Date Line separates the two, so there is a time difference of 23 hours between the two.
But, how do you make Sarah who was a member of the National Honor Society into a dumb hick from Alaska? By misquoting her.
We should push back when they call all our best stupid and than give us Biden, Obama, and Kerry
Gosh, no fooling. Yeah, it's just possible. Barely possible.
Your name doesn't have to be Bismark or Richelieu to figure out that Russia has been like this since Peter the Great. Nor do you need access to any compartmented intelligence information. Palin isn't psychic, but she was right. Deal with it.
I agree 100% we need to push back.
They are starting their smears now. It is time now, to start pushing back.
Hard.
The fundamental problem with health insurance is that people don’t own their own insurance. Obamacare doesn’t fix that...it only changes the third party. Obamacare may continue to cover your issue if you become unemployed and have to change plans, but for many people it does not cover what they need. The repeal is a start...but you’re right in that it can’t be the end. There need to be rules regarding definitions of coverage, and transitions of coverage...but these are more “weights and measures” type of stuff.
And communism has failed worldwide over 100 years only because THE RIGHT people weren’t in charge.
So, to summarize this article:
Sarah Palin was dead-ass right.
And that makes her wrong.
Gotchya.
That pretty much sums up 17% of the articles on Sarah Palin by the leftmedia.
Oh, my! I coaxed you out of your silence! For that, I’m happy! But Sarah’s so pretty and sexy - I can’t understand why any man wouldn’t go wild over her. Of course, it’s the sexy part that has made Washington hate her. Liberal puritans.
The author is a nitwit, who cannot see beyond the end of her nose. It is because of morons like this that the U.S. and the world is in such a situation. Voted for dope and change over future consequences.
The Democrats have to break it in order to rebuild it into their Communist utopia.
The Democrats are not hiding this fact, Obama has been talking about it in our faces.
Americans are becoming to stupid and brainwashed to recognize the enemy within, Democrats.
Would that have helped the MSM to see?

And trying to use such twisted "logic" to explain why Palin isn't so smart shows how stooooopid the author is.
“Before”: If you lost your job you can (if you so choose) go on your State’s Medicaid and that covers most everything, in any States I know of.
Today: Is your self interest greater than your interest in the good of the country? Does it matter to you that once in the new system, the FEDERAL gov’t totally has you by the b-—s?
I do not ask this lightly: I presently have to decide whether to get insurance with the subsidy for my family, or go without, as it is impossible for us to afford the new premiums without the subsidy. If it was just me, I might take my chances, but with a daughter with some continuing problems - agghh. The choice is tearing me apart. Of course it doesn’t help that if you get the subsidy, the odds of identity and other theft are, IMO, almost certain, at some point.
The fact that a middle income family like mine has no choice (if they want health insurance) but to be dependent on the gov’t (subsidy) shows how evil Obamacare is.
