Texas high school's $60 million stadium has 'extensive cracking'
In the Dallas suburb of Allen, the local high school made national headlines in 2012 when it unveiled its $60 million football stadium.
But less than two years later, there's a major problem.
Allen Independent School District officials announced at a news conference on Thursday that the stadium has "extensive cracking" in the concourse and will close for repairs.

First of all ... a HS with a 60 mil. stadium???????? I understand that this in Texas, but 60 mil?
It should crack.
So with the usury on the bonds-— which were certainly sold to giant Northeastern investment houses and banks, not to anyone locally-—the stadium cost @ $120 million.
3 years of extreme drought and high summer temperature has not helped this.
There may have been some issues with construction, but the extreme dry conditions may be the biggest cause.
Built with illegal labor?
Follow the money. Betcha the contractor was a buddy of whoever doled out the contract to build it, and I’ll also bet THAT bid was not the lowest one.
So, were did the money come from?
Texas has some incredible highschool stadiums
Amazing really
I see the one in Rockwall a fair amount..
And Plano.... east...I think...amazing
Yeah, they kept the cost down by skimping on the luxury sky boxes.
ROFLMAO!! Good response.
The unions wouldn’t have allowed that.
That was my first thought. They are notorious in Cali for their piss poor construction.
Because a sign saying “Screw you, taxpayer!” is not enough for the school districts. These stadiums drive the point home like no middle finger ever could.
Completely misplaced priorities:
Almost NO high-school in Japan has grass AT ALL on their baseball field.
Tennis courts there are commonly made of DIRT.
Japanese kids are good with computers, right? So commonly they have computers at school for the kids, right?
NO ALMOST *NONE* OF THEM DO.
Me.
I live here and we will be paying the bond off for the next 30 years. It was part of a bond issue about five years ago. It was a $110 million dollar bond for 'School Improvement'. The actual cost of the stadium was hidden in that total.
I voted against it. It was too expensive. The bond passed somewhere around 75%. A lot of people are very disappointed.
The good news is that the builder has a good reputation and they are willing to work with Allen ISD to fix the issues. I hope they stand by their commitment and fix it. It's a really nice stadium, but I think they spent way too much money building it.
Especially for a HS. If it were a college that generated money , but a HS?
The cracks are quite large for it to be just normal shrinkage of the concrete. Probably a design problem or construction/inspection problem. Maybe somebody didn’t read the soils report.

It is called insane stupidity.
No wonder, American pubic (sic) schools are such a failure.
