I have no more use for Obama as the next guy, but the truth is that no American president, even Ted Cruz, would be willing to risk a war of immense proportions to help the Ukraine. It is not the President that Putin is taking his measure of, but the people. He has observed for more than a decade the United States involved in two conflicts that would rank as minor in terms of casualties, and has observed much consternation among the populace. Do you really think we are willing to go full Eastern Front, engage in the 2nd Battle of Kursk over the Ukraine. We know the answer to that question, and so does he.

Do you remember the Berlin air lift?

I did not say go to War. I said to invoke caution by Putin.

The ironic thing is that in 1994 the US, Britain and Russia signed a treaty with Ukraine to come to Ukraine’s aid if they were attacked as an inducement to give up their nukes. So now Russia is on the precipice of attacking them and we are on the precipice of backing away.So much for treaties. Would Russia be messing with them if the Ukies still had nuclear tipped missiles in their silos?
