Not true at all.

He can more than take care of himself at 600 lbs, and I know. I tipped the scales at 504 back in May, worked 50+ hours a week as a business owner, still worked in the yard, cut the grass, cut firewood, it wasn’t pretty maybe but I got it done. There was no excuse for it, no blame on anyone but myself. I was heavy my whole life and I sure as hell never blamed anyone else for it, I guess I was one of the lucky ones because I was probably the healthiest fat guy my Dr. had ever seen.

Never had any medical issues at all, I had bariatric surgery back in May and it was the first time I ever stepped foot in a hospital other than the ER for getting chunks of steel removed occasionally from work. (occupational hazard)

Since May I’m down this morning to 325 and figure I’ve got 100 to go. Will certainly be there by Xmas. To be honest I can’t figure out guys like this even as close as I came to them, but it’s not anyone’s fault at all but his. I bet he gets his food delivered by someplace like PeaPod who even bring it in and put it on the table for you so he doesn’t have to listen to family and what friends he might have had lecturing him all the time.

He was like an alcoholic only with food, his fault alone for not asking for help, no one failed him.

I appreciate your candor, and congratulate you upon your success - But I would be your counterpoint:

I was hale and hearty when I turned 40 - Always had labor intensive work, was maybe packing 10 or 15 lbs... In 2 weeks/month I went from that to totally sedentary, in screaming pain... I literally only got up to go to the bathroom once a day, because it hurt so bad to move.

I lost all of my 40's to that condition... Wound up bedridden or wheelchair bound for the lion's share of it... I never really ate that much - generally just a big plate at dinner time - But lowered metabolism and complete inactivity did their damage anyway - I never quite hit 500, but I could see it from where I stood...

I am in my 4th year of recovery from that illness - As soon as I could walk again, the weight slowly started to come off - 30 lbs the first year, 80 lbs the second... Now I have to fight hard in the lower half of the 300's ... keep bouncing back and forth, and can't seem to get under the 330 mark... I WILL get back down. It WILL happen, but it is seriously difficult to do.

Things most wouldn't even consider are major obstacles - It took FOREVER for my back straps to keep my back aligned - Even now, they are good, but only if I am straight up-and-down... If I get even a little off-kilter, my back is destroyed and I am down for a week. My groin muscles had shortened, and my ass muscles had lengthened, from sitting for so very long, so my hips wouldn't work right... every muscle in my body - even muscles that most don't even know they have had weakened nearly to a sort of atrophy. My bones had not supported weight for a decade...

So while I am not hacking your observations, I will state that one size does not fit all. And my every sympathy goes out to those who are house-bound, wherein weight is almost always a factor - It is a miserable existence, not made better by folks who make flippant remarks like some of those found in this thread.

If YHWH taught me anything in that experience, It is to have mercy and kindness for those who are suffering - WHATEVER they are suffering from. A lot of times, my judgements before the fact were uninformed.
