Riot police in Ukraine fell to their knees to ask for forgiveness for their colleagues who shot and beat antigovernment protesters in the recent Kiev massacre.The extraordinary scenes in Lviv involved the Berkut elite anti-riot force whose members had returned from duty in the capital.They apologised on a stage in front of pro-Europe protesters.

-Most of the Berkut riot police were young, broke Russian sympathizers bussed in from the east side of Ukraine.

Compare to the Chinese soldiers at Tiananmen Square.

They were all from outer provinces, could barely understand the Mandarin dialect, and were told the people in Beijing looked down on back country hicks.

They, like the imported Russian Ukrainians, would not have fired on people they perceived to be like them.
