True story: I was in Spruce Pine, NC, trying to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Entrance was closed, so I followed the detour sign and down we went. Down a steep, narrow, twisty road with no shoulder and no place to even think of turning around. It was so steep that all the stuff in the back of my van was sliding forward and I had a real fear that I would burn up my brakes. Then I saw the sign:

ROAD IS WORSE AHEAD

That’s a funny sign. It kind of sounds like something you’d see in a comedy.

My mother did the driving. She’s been there before so she is familiar with those roads. I wouldn’t have been able to anyway because her car has a stick shift and I can’t drive one of those.

Ha! We were driving down a steep, twisting mountain road in western NC. As we entered a particularly scary turn there was a sign by the road:

“Are you ready to meet Jesus?”
