All signs indicate Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will likely veto politically-charged legislation that supporters say promotes religious freedom and opponents contend discriminates against gays and lesbians.
Brewer did not signal her intention either way in an exclusive interview with CNN on Monday at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington.
"I can assure you, as always, I will do the right thing for the state of Arizona," she said.
But some Arizona Republicans who know her well say they are confident those comments mean Brewer will almost surely reject the bill that is generating nationwide controversy.
The Republican-led measure would allow Arizona business owners to deny service to gay and lesbian customers as long as they assert their religious beliefs.
Brewer is scheduled to return to Arizona on Tuesday, and a source tells CNN those familiar with her thinking say she will likely spend at least one full business day in the state before acting.
"I'm going to go home, and when I receive the bill, I'm going to read it and I'm going to be briefed on it. We have been following it. And I will make my decision in the near future," Brewer told CNN.
She has until Saturday to sign or veto the bill. If she does nothing, it automatically becomes law.

It’s a simple logical corollary from whom God is.
It would be like saying that it is vain for you to try to walk on the ground without gravity.
And indeed, it is PERSONAL belief, including YOU, that gives you the power and influence to glorify God which may well include influence in the world.
You have to take all God’s declarations and promises at face value yourself. You can’t just go rummaging in scripture for an answer to some nuisance issue like faux marriage, and ignoring it for everything else you do. God won’t accommodate that.
And ultimately living a life full of God will show even a lot of the homosexual world “here’s a better way to do it, and you can see that for yourself.”
Now if you think the better way to do it is mere heterosexuality, think again. God said either virtuous singlehood or dedicated holy marriage. If the heterosexual world thought it had the high moral ground to admonish homosexuals, it abandoned that high moral ground years ago. Recapturing the holy target in plain view in your personal lives is what it will take, and you will find that indeed politics was only a sideshow. What really mattered was sharing the Good News.
The ‘Do it because God said so’ argument is not working at all.
Gays are winning every battle.
Aids was a blessing in that it provided the perfect lesson, perversion has negative consequences. It was easy then, but certain drugs made that invisible.
No, you cant fight machine guns with bow and arrows, unless your only goal is to get the heaven soon and take others on your side with you.
That's fine however once the Romans throw you to the Lions you wont be showing anything.
“You don’t fight guns with water pistols.”
No, but you can nail jello to the wall if you freeze it; the stupid party has yet to figure that out yet...
On gay issues I don't know who are the most counter productive in GOP, those who want to surrender on it, or those who make up arguments designed to rally only that 5 to 10% of true believers who will support them anyway.
But it sure would be nice to beat Dems on these fights instead of year after year of endless whining.
And since you mentioned Nazis, Jews should provide services for Nazi meetings...
Yup. It sucks - but when decide to operate a business in the public arena, you have to serve ALL of the public ...
Absolutely. And if the gay bakers refuse to do it, they should be forced out of business. Although I, myself, might not eat the cake - coulda been spit into ...
Seriously, this is a slippery slope. Its an all or nothing proposition. Otherwise, it could eventually devolve into anarchy - with people refusing service for a wide variety of reasons.
Its the "If this is Tuesday, it must be Belgium" syndrome ...
You forgot that for each Christian the lions ate there were dozens more convinced that the faith was worth the trouble.
