On Monday, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced massive cuts to the size of the armed services, slashing the army to its pre-World War II size. In 2011, the army had some 566,000 soldiers; Hagel wants it cut to somewhere between 440,000 and 450,000 troops by 2019. If Congress does not add additional funding, Hagel threatens to slash that number to 420,000 by 2019.

With out cutting a dime if they’d do away with the PORK unwanted projects in the Military they would not have to downsize a thing. Just stop building and funding what the Military has NO NEED or WANT OF. like these speed bumps which cost $7K a piece that were installed on Military bases last year. IN 5mph parking lots of Commissary or Exchanges, Sorry I don’t know what other branches but the Navy calls theirs. http://cdni.wired.co.uk/620x413/a_c/bump.jpg

Treason thy name is Obama. His strategy from day one has been to make America vulnerable from without by weakening the US military and supporting its enemies and to make America vulnerable from within by destroying its economy and finances. And to date, the Republicans have stood by and allowed it to happen without a fight.
Very good point. Ryan and the GOP leadership really messed up when they cut retiree benefits without democrat concessions. Very disappointed in Ryan.
The plan is to keep the bases open and most of the appropriations flowing to campaign donor contractors. The big cuts are to personnel and some systems.
Another good point. Talking to my son in the Air Force. He says no way does the F-35 replaces the A-10 in close combat. In addition to all the points in the NRO article, he points out that repairing the LO on the stealth planes is a four day process which is not conducive to a close support mission. It is also expensive. Why would you put such a plane in this situation.
