One of the top Republican leaders in the House believes it is still possible to pass immigration legislation this year. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), the House Republican Conference Chair, sounded more hopeful than other amnesty supporters in the House when speaking to her constituents in Washington state last week.
I think immigration is still a possibility, McMorris Rodgers said in Spokane, Washington. Theres a recognition that we need to fix what is a broken immigration system."
McMorris Rodgers pushed for immigration reform in her response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address and also said that the issue should be a top priority for Republicans in an interview last year with Univision, the Spanish-language TV station.
