If we cannot articulate a good apology [defense], then shouldn't we "be schooled"?
They are destroying my country and the society in which I live.
And how do you propose to change society without changing the heart/mind of those comprising society?
I no longer have patience for their games.
I never said you had to have patience for "their games" -- I said it was disappointing to see the sheer venom turned on because he claimed to be liberal.
Conservatives can and have articulated a nearly endless set of arguments and reasons why liberty, free markets, and conservative principles are superior to the ideas behind socialism. Socialists have also provided a nearly endless set of examples of why their ideas are terrible, including the dead bodies of millions of people that have been slaughtered in the name of their ideas. Today we have examples of socialism in action in places like Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea.
It is certainly worth teaching young people the truth, and countering the nonsense and propaganda that is poured into their heads by liberal elites in our nation's schools, but that is different than some nebulous obligation to "defend" conservative ideas.
I suggest a better starting point. Ask a socialist to justify the actions of Pol Pot, or Stalin, or Mao, or Castro, or Kim. Or better yet let the young socialist explain his support for them and their ideas to someone who has survived their death camps, or someone who tried to save their kids from drowning during an attempted escape from the tyranny of socialism, or someone who got ashore in a raft from Cuba even though their friends died along the way.
Once the young socialist renounces the ideas of socialism, then perhaps he is ready to read and learn about liberty.
He offered no position to argue against.
He was smarmy and condescending and while you may want to waste your time with him I do not.
