The Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to address climate change. That shouldnt be a controversial statement, but in some quarters, it is. Indeed, its at the heart of a set of legal challenges that will be heard by the Supreme Court on Monday.
As administrator of the EPA from 2001-03, I served in the administration of President George W. Bush. I may sometimes disagree with his successor on the best way to address climate change as a matter of policy, but I absolutely agree that the EPA has broad authority to issue regulations addressing climate change, including those being challenged by industry groups and their allies in Utility Air Regulatory Group v. Environmental Protection Agency, otherwise known as the greenhouse gas cases, or UARG for short.
Climate change is the defining environmental challenge of our time, and there are huge consequences for inaction whether measured in human lives or economic disruption. Given these stakes, I wish Congress would step up and do its job, refining Americas approach to climate change and expanding the tools at the EPAs disposal. In previous decades, the EPA could rely upon bipartisan majorities to revise the Clean Air Act and address new and growing air pollution problems directly. Today, gridlock and partisanship make such common-sense action all but impossible. Nevertheless, the Clean Air Act as written remains the most powerful tool the EPA has at its disposal to address the issue of climate change....

Whitman is full of shit and was back then. The EPA has been one of the biggest usurpers of governmental powers not specifically assigned to them by law, in American history.
Remember, her predecessor was a marxist named Carol Browner, a member of the Socialist International, among other organizations. Her protege’ was Lisa Jackson, another hardcore marxist, and now Jackson’s successor is a nutcase named McCarthy.
These people are dangerous and Whitman is too. She’s both a fool and a closet environmental thug. One of Bush’s worse appointments, ever.
PS: I work in environmental affairs. Good people are being corrupted by the EPA to protect and promote unscientific theories and looney-toon policies, that hurt the economy of America.
Nonsense. This woman is delusional. False premise, and at what cost to chase a ghost? We send our money to Washington to get maybe 25 cents on the dollar in return while the remainder is spent on tyrannical bureaucrats whose only mission is to give themselves a job in greater and greater malfeasance and complexity. We are doomed. Fifty years maybe if the low information crowd does not wake up. But do we see any inkling that will happen? No....
Ignoring the issue that CO2 is not a pollutant.
As always, the Devil is in the Details - who defines a pollutant?
It does not have the ability to regulate the sun, though it might like to do so.
They will all fly in their private jets to some resort city to discuss the problem.
As mentioned in related threads, not only have the states never delegated to the federal government, via the Constituiton, the speciific power to regulate climate issues, but consider the following.
The Founding States make the first numbered clauses in the Constitution, Sections 1-3 of Article I, evidently a good place to hide them from Congress, to clarify that all federal legislative powers are vested in the elected members of Congress. So even if the states had delegated to Congress the specific power to legislatively address climate issues, Congress has a constitutional monopoly on federal legislative powers whether it wants it or not, and cannot delegate legislative / regulatory powers to non-elected federal bureaucrats imo.
So by establishing constitutionally undefined, so-called "independent federal regulatory agencies" like the EPA, Congress is wrongly protecting federal legislative powers from the wrath of the voters in blatant defiance of the constitutional statutes referenced above.
Whitman: “I am GOD and can alter physics, reality, and matter to suit my whims!”
/ never mind that global warming is not real and is “backed” by data that has been manipulated into providing the desired result.
Refried brain whitman is declaring her power to alter reality.
People who firmly believe in the power of government to alter reality are dangerous.
What next, they’ll have the oceans flogged?
>”who defines a pollutant?”<
Me. Obama is a Pollutant.
King Canute and Xerxes.
What’s the history behind that picture?
