I am amazed, too, that there are quite a few Putin’s fans lurking here. The Ukraine developments sure made some people show their true colors. that or a complete ignorance of the region and the fact that Putya is pure KGB and the KGB never really went away.

They've been here all along. You only get to see their true "colors" whenever something doesn't break Russia's way, or Russia does something questionable (e.g., the invasion of Georgia).

Factor into the mix that Putin (recently) learned how to play some people for suckers, and it's an interesting mix.

Both of you are relatively new here (he says, leaning on his cane), but the group of FReepers I fondly refer to as the Borscht Brigade came into their own during Clinton's bombing of Kosovo during the late 1990's. For obvious reasons, they found a sympathetic ear here. These guys are Russian revanchists, pure and simple. You just have to wait for an event such as this one to see it.

It's gotten to the point where I can guess the author of a comment before seeing who wrote it.
