Do you means the Lenin statues that stood there when all of Yanukovich’s predecessors were in power, such as Timoshenko as Prime Minister? Does it say why they suddenly started now after 23 years? Just curious.
Don’t know why there starting this only now but I assume Ukies see the Lenin statues as symbols of Russia and Russian power over them. That issue being at the forefront at the moment may be the reason for new interest in destroying them.

There’s also some very USSR-constitution-like language in the current Ukranian constitution.
