Three Cuban men attempted to windsurf to Florida on Tuesday, crossing the shark-infested and notoriously turbulent Florida Straits to escape communist rule. Henry Vergara Negrin was the only member of a group leaving Jibacoa (near Havana) to arrive in Florida. Negrin is also the first documented windsurfer to safely reach Florida soil in 20 years.
He arrived at the luxurious Reach Resort in Key West 9.5 hours later, after traveling almost 97 miles, and was immediately aided by hotel staff. He was briefly hospitalized, and will be allowed to stay in the United States because of a provision in the Cuban Adjustment Act.
With Negrin at the start of his journey were an Amando (aged 28) and Dwarta (23). Negrin lost sight of his companions four hours into the journey. Dwarta was found disoriented and drifting on February 20, and the US Coast Guard was still searching for the third man as of last night.
The provision in the Cuban Adjustment Act that will allow Negrin to stay stipulates that those intercepted at sea will be returned to their home or another country.
Lost his 2 friends though, which is sad
could we give FREE flights to any Libs and minorities that are soooo disapointed with this country???I bet we could get unlimited donations from conservative American citizens!
Of course, they would have to have Cuban citizenship and not come back!!
Is Scott Boras involved?
I will never forget being in Key Largo in 1994 when a old cast iron bathtub surrounded by innertubes, and a pole stuck into the drain for a mast with a bedsheet for a sail landed with 6 Cubans.
Facing death to leave a communist country to come to a country that’s fast becoming communist.
Yes. Janet Reno and slick Willie loved him so much they sent him to the brainwashing camps in Cuba.
No, a cruise ship is not American soil..when we leave American waters, the flag comes down. Apparently, a cruise ship rescuing refugees or assisting the coast guard is not that uncommon. Our crew told of many experiences. And yes, a captain can
marry a couple.
Why would anyone leave the workers’ paradise?

Talk about surreal. Imagine the culture shock on both sides.
-— Wow, thats one tough dude to pull that off. -—
How do your arms not fall off?
