Fracking, a dangerous and destructive gas drilling technique, has used 250 billion gallons of water and 2 billion gallons of chemicals since 2005, according to a September report from Environment America Research & Policy Center, Environment Floridas national federation. Unfortunately, some of those same impacts may be coming to South Florida near Big Cypress and the western Everglades.
Last spring, an out-of-state drilling company applied for a permit to drill a 13,900 foot deep exploratory gas drilling well in close proximity to a relatively densely populated residential area known as Golden Gate, just miles from a string of parks created to preserve Big Cypress Swamp and the historic Everglades.
While the application has been approved, citizens still have the chance to stop this project by speaking out to local and federal officials. Environment Florida is working to build the momentum we need to keep special places, like Big Cypress and the Everglades, off-limits to dangerous and destructive drilling.
bert,
i live about an hour north of west palm beach and fly to Everglades City once in a while.
All the while praying i have NO problems in transit.
GOD only knows the critters there.
Can you point me to the video? I don’t see one at the link. The two links they do have go to page not found.
I don't see a fracking going on around here.
“the left’s side is applauded”
Yep....many people in Florida are retired New England transplants. That means many Floridians are now left leaning democrats (to include the hopeless minorities that follow the dems and lefties no matter what the cause).
Sister in law lives about a hr from that over priced amusement park Bush Gardens, in a retirement community, her house has a sink hole under it. Ins has already paid the house off. They have know way of knowing how deep it is. But you can see the crack in the foundation in her kitchen. And some outside. No oil business there.
To: Yo-Yo; AllThe video's there (busy morning...I neglected to mention that detail, but my reply was to SloFloFreeper; I was lazy & didn't quote as I typically do...).Check out THIS bias:
Thanks! I was confused again.
Thanks again. I watched it. That was the Bayou Corne Sinkhole in Assumption Parish.
It is in no way related to hydraulic Fracturing or drilling for oil or natural gas.
EnvironMENTALists can claim hydraulic fracturing causes sunspots as well. Doesn’t make it any more true than that claim.
One of the funniest movies ever!
Somehow I don't remember the hundreds you speak of, I don't even remember this being an issue at any time. It was a long time ago, if you have a link, kindly post it.
I dont think it is so much that as it is of how uninformed all sides are. Inaccuracies should be called out no matter the side if one is trying to push an agenda [in this case a good one] and utilizing less than truthful tactics...in this instance her statement leads one to believe that absolutely no drilling is taking place....Call all of them out...I personally dont trust a single one of them
Where do you see “hundreds”?
But we certainly had too many.

Sell it to someone else, I’m not buying your attempt at misdirection.
Her actual words were:
"Whether that is in the Everglades or whether that is in the eastern Gulf region or whether that's in North Dakota, we need to go where the energy is."
How did that imply no drilling is taking place?
I liked Michele for lots of reasons, and thought she was a bad presidential candidate for lots of reasons. Drilling in the everglades as an issue was not one of them.
I would encourage them to drill under Lake Michigan, and love the fracking revolution. I'm 100% with Michele if she comes out for either of them as well.
And that was hardly the only time FReepers tossed their ethics aside for a chance to attack Bachmann over some media driven stupidity.
Some took great joy in the stories about her having headaches. Others declared that if her husband is really gay he needs to get it out in the open. Some called her an idiot for suggesting that Iranians in Cuba might be a threat. (She is a member of the permanent select committee on intelligence) Still others accused her of spouting national secrets about Pakistani nukes when in reality that info was not secret and had been published in multiple national and international magazines months before.
Not FRs proudest moments. In my opinion much of it was driven by trolls who found willing participants who went along as a means of getting her out of the way. She was hardly alone as a target.
I counted more than one in the first 50 of that link criticizing Bachmann for her words.

I participated in several threads on the topic at the time. Many on Free Republic thought the drilling in the Everglades was a bad idea, even though it had been going on for some time already.
For those who want to see a 6 minute video showing how horizontal drilling and fracking is done, Northern Gas and Oil has done a great one.
It includes a visual piece on how fresh water aquifers are protected from contamination.
