I’ll tell you why. In the last Century, Ukrainians were killed by the tens of millions, 1st by the Soviets, then by the Nazis, then again by the Soviets. In WW2, the Ukraine lost something like 19% of its population KILLED - that doesn’t include those displaced who never returned. Plus they got the “scorched earth” treatment twice. By comparison, in WW2, the US lost ~0.2% of its population, Great Britain lost 0.7%.
