OK, where’s the space for the truck stop hookers?
Also, I note that if one wanted to live the trucker life portrayed in “Smokey and the Bandit”, or the series “BJ and the Bear”, there is no space up front for a hound dog or a chimpanzee to accompany and advise the driver.
What kind of advancement is this?
How does it keep the windshield clear in rain and snow? Also it doesn’t seem to have roll down windows. That could complicate several things like tolls and weigh stations.
Great...but will WalMart hire Americans to drive them?
Interesting that this appears in time for Obama’s newest decree on heavy truck fuel standards. Looks like one more “Truck of the future” that will never hit the road. Walmart already contracts out most of their freight hauling anyway.
Very cool. But any engineer could tell you that the front of a tractor trailer should be shaped like a jet’s nose. The issue is getting the functional components to fit within that shape, and ROI.
That cab looks like a real treat for summer afternoon driving.
The tractor is by Peterbuilt
The trailer is by Great Dane
There was no rear faring that one sees on a number of trailers these days
This is what Walmart has always done....... lead
They selected the best to do what they needed
Eye-yi-yi. Kinda like being strapped to the front bumper of your KW.
It looks a lot like the truck from an old 80s series called “The Highwayman”.
But I’m guessing the tractor portion doesn’t convert into a helicopter.
Very cool. Looks like something designed by Syd Mead.
looks like a gremlin...the big eared evil toy
How much will they have to raise prices to pay for these hi-tech toys?
I know they tried gas-turbine trucks back in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
K-Mart mentality took over.
Radical mechanical departures seldom give the reliability and longevity of proven designs.
Sure they can reduce weight and improve fuel economy, but I am very very skeptical about this working reliably.
Will bureaucrats whine about putting the seat in the middle?
“The trailer is made almost exclusively with carbon fiber, saving around 4,000 pounds which can then be used to carry more freight.”
OK, carbon fiber is great. How much more does the trailer cost vs. an aluminum trailer? So how long does it take to pay off the difference in cost, ROI?
I would think Walmart, like UPS & FED EX would be one of the first to calculate the cost savings of natural gas vs. diesel considering all their trucks return to their distribution center after delivery to the stores. There is a center here in Raymond, NH. It is 25 acres under roof. I believe it is the distribution center for all of New England. The reason they built it there was it central location in NE, the NH tax advantages for its employees and the demographic make up of the workers available.
