In the 70’s on a trip to Florida as a child I saw a billboard as we pulled into Georgia. It was on the highway and said “We the farmers of Georgia apologize for putting Jimmy Carter in office.” I wish I had a picture of it.

In 1950 I took a trip to Key West. At an airport in Miami, there were two water fountains---one for blacks and one for whites. Segregation and racism obviously had not ended.

In 1958 I saw discrimination at a Maryland restaurant. For me, in some way, it's not history, as I lived it as a white girl.
