POLL: CORNYN WON’T WIN MARCH 4 TEXAS GOP PRIMARY
Stockman for Senate ^ | 2/17/14 | Stockman for Senate

Just 22 months after Ted Cruz’s upset victory over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Texas Republicans want to toss another high-profile establishment Republican into a runoff for a U.S. Senate seat against his conservative challenger.

A new Gravis/Human Events poll shows incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) with only 43 percent support in the March 4 Texas Republican primary, forcing him into a May 27 runoff against U.S. Rep Steve Stockman (R-TX 36.)

Stockman is in second place, grabbing 28 percent and quickly closing in on Cornyn. The remaining 29 percent were undecided.

The poll was conducted before voters knew Cornyn voted the evening of Feb. 12 to kill a Ted Cruz filibuster and advance a total suspension of Obama’s debt limit until March 2015. Cornyn’s vote to raise the debt limit set off a firestorm of opposition to him among Texas Republican voters.

Gravis Marketing conducted the poll Feb. 10-12 for “Human Events,” a prominent national conservative newspaper. It was published Monday in “Human Events” and was not commissioned by any campaign or conducted with any campaign’s knowledge.

This is the fifth poll published in Cornyn’s race. All five show Cornyn forced into a runoff. Research by polling experts shows undecided voters usually do not break for the incumbents and incumbents usually lose runoff elections.

“The buzzards are circling over John Cornyn. A runoff is an incumbent’s death sentence,” said Stockman spokesman Donny Ferguson. “This is why Cornyn refuses to release his internal poll numbers.”

Yeah; it’s a little early to narrow down your predictions for who will control the Senate. But, if Texas on March 4th, forces Cornyn into a run-off, start looking for the “RINO dominoes” to start falling and RINO incumbents to start crapping down both of their legs.

I'm torn between Dwayne Stovall and Linda Vega. That Stovall ad where he called Mitch McConnell a turtle and put a turtle picture beside Mitch "the bi**h", is not playing very well. Getting some bad publicity. When I saw that Ad, I knew that it would come back to bite him in the butt. But, remember: Reid Reasor and Ken Cope are both outstanding candidates as well. Scratch off Chris Mapp. He's on record calling all Mexicans "Wet Backs". That is the Todd Aikin/Richard Mourdock type of candidate we do NOT need which would lose to Cornyn in a cake-walk

I despise mcconnell. I meant no such reference. He is a pos that defines the very meaning of feces.

Best chance for a Republican pickup in Iowa might be Mark Jacobs. He can self-fund and sidestep the Republican Party fiascoes going on here.

FWIW, I’m supporting Sam Clovis.

I wish y’all well, and hope that the wind ends up at your backs. I do like the southern primary system, with the top two primary vote-getters in a run-off. Do you end up with whomever has the plurality?

Clovis is solid gold, and is outworking the others in terms of crossing the state. Great guy.

In the Iowa GOP, if no primary candidate gets 35%, the choice is made at the district convention.

Because of Iowa’s caucus system, grass-roots determination can overcome the GOPe. US Rep. Steve King was chosen by the district convention.
