Peanuts were cracking and boots were stomping Sunday at a Longview rally for U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.
More than 1,000 people attended the event at Maude Cobb Convention Center which featured a performance by Longview resident and country music singer Neal McCoy.
Karl Rove, former senior adviser and deputy chief of staff for President George W. Bush, delivered a short speech to introduce Cornyn.
With a large American flag as a backdrop, McCoy led the crowd in a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. Rick Hulburt, a Hallsville resident, said he and his wife, Mary, decided to attend the event because they wanted to hear what Cornyn has to say.
The best way to educate yourself is to come and hear the issues, she said.
Hulburt said he thinks the Republican Party has been divided with the tea party gaining strength.
The Republicans need to work toward middle ground, Hulburt said. I think the Democratic Party is a little more unified. The conservatives are trying to go back to the grassroots and I think politics have gotten so liberal. The tea party has gone back to a more conservative approach.
McCoy introduced Rove and Cornyn, with both men receiving standing ovations from the crowd.

The Cornyn/Rove rally was rocking!
More like, he knows how to play both sides of the issues - and foolish voters.
The only thing missing were the Bingo cards.
If Carl Rove is supporting Cornyn I most certainly would not vote for him. I wonder at times where Rove’s political allegiance really falls; is he a RINO or a Democratic operative. This man has cost us too many elections because he didn’t like the outcome of whatever primaries. We have primaries to determine who we want, not to appease his lying ass. Rove be-damned.
East Texas was known for generations as “Yellow Dog Democrat” territory, voting for a yellow dog if he was a Democrat. Some of these folks are still contaminated by the “benefits” of Big Government and their own personal profit from its hand-outs.
Are Texans that dumb that they will re-elect this RINO who is screwing them. The State of Texas already pays him THREE pensions for jobs he held for the state. 1 @ 3 yrs, 6 yrs, 7 yrs. Not the required 20. Plus his 6 figure US Senate pay, minus the perks that are not counted.
They showed up for Neil McCoy he is still a fantastic C & W singer. He is a regular on Family Reunion on RFDTV that features mostly the older singers of our past. Not the bubble gum singers of today. Wink http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER2rmsyrkYg
Not rove or cornyn. You’d have to pay me big $$ to attend that RINOS begathons.
It was easier to beat Dewhurst with Ted Cruz - a great candidate - in an open seat, than to unseat Cornyn. With less than stellar candidates and the whole nine yards of problems.
I won’t vote for Cornyn but then, I’m a FReeper.

A gathering of rinos
Early Voting Starts Tuesday
Easy as ABC - Anybody But Cornyn!
This thread is about people stupid enough to show up at a Cornyn rally in E. Texas, gave both Cornyn and Rove standing “O”s.
The question posed was, are people in Texas really that stupid to vote for the RINO Cornyn?
I gave reasons why it isn’t as easy as it was for Cruz to unseat Dewhurst.
Voting for ABC will hopefully get Cornyn into a run off with one of the others.
That is good.
That isn’t the final result.
It does matter that Cornyn is a sitting senator, that he’s not as inept as Dewhurst, that his opponent is not Ted Cruz etc.
ABC is a bumper sticker slogan.
There’s more to it, to get to where we want to, which is to oust the senior TX Senator.
In the prior post I meant “to beat Dewhurst”, not “to unseat him”, because I know it was an open seat. But in this sense it’s ok to put it like that, because Dewhurst was assumed to have the seat before anything happened. It was his to lose. Ha! Thank the Lord for Ted Cruz and all who helped him.
txrangerette: you are right; i like your reply. Unfortunately i don’t have a lot of confidence in voters reacting logically instead of to bumper sticker slogans. lets hope Texas voters show the country they are different!
We have about the same problem with our RINO Senator lamar Alexander of TN. He got in because his opponet was harold ford jr, the most Dem political family in Memphis, in all levels of govt and all crooks. You could not vote out.
In our primaries if 2 conservatives run, the lowest in the polls will not back down, and throw their weight behind the one who would win over the moderate or RINO. So we get the moderate or RINO every time. Its how we got RINO corker, and gov halsam. State Senator Ron Ramsey was the Lead Conservative, and had the votes to prove it on his record. #2 was a no body in comparison. He is not only still a State Senator but our LT Gov, Which sets him up for 2016. He shoved threw our new GOOD gun laws.
