Texas Telephone Poll: Stockman Gaining Against Cornyn In Primary Battle (Cornyn at 43%)
Gravis Marketing ^ | 2/16/14 | Thomas Young.

Posted on 02/16/2014 6:18:13 PM PST by jimbo123

Human Events-Gravis Marketing, conducted a random survey of 729 likely republican primary voters in Texas regarding Republican Steve Stockman and Republican John Cornyn between 2/10/14 and 2/12/14. The poll carries a margin of error of 3.6%. The telephone poll was conducted using automated phone calls to landlines and live operators contacting cellphone only households.

The Telephone poll centered on voters’ approval of Stockman and Cornyn and surveyed voters on candidate preference if the election were held today. John Cornyn, the Senate Minority Whip who has held his seat since 2002 has been cast by GOP challenger Congressman Steve Stockman as a beltway insider and will likely try to frame his challenge to the seat as a referendum on Washington politics.

Douglas Kaplan of Gravis Marketing states, “Congressman Stockman is much closer than expected. Cornyn is under 50% with a significant amount still undecided, which is dangerous territory for an incumbent. The poll was conducted before Cornyn’s recent cloture vote on raising the debt limit, which could hurt him among conservative primary voters.”

Among all registered voters when asked “Do you approve or disapprove of Republican Steve Stockman?”, 55% indicated they were unsure while 28% approved and 18% disapproved. Further, when asked “Do you approve or disapprove of John Cornyn?”, 49% indicated they approved, 26% disapproved and 24% were unsure.

Lastly, when asked, “If the election for U.S. Senate Primary were held today, would you vote for Republican Steve Stockman or Republican John Cornyn?”, Cornyn holds a 15-point lead (43% to 28%) over Stockman with 29% of voters expressing uncertainty over their choice. The uncertain voters at this stage in the contest could indicate that Stockman’s entry into race on December 9, 2013 has inserted uncertainty into the minds of Cornyn supporters or those who may have abstained from voting.

“Do you approve or disapprove of Republican Steve Stockman?”, 55% indicated they were unsure while 28% approved and 18% disapprove”

That’s actually remarkable for Stockman. I’d expect his negatives to be higher since the national lame stream media likes to lampoon him.

The important tidbit however is that Cornyn is under 50%

Even if he gets 49%, he will be forced into a runoff, and like Dewhurst before him, he will be felled. TEA marches on!

How many are in the race now? 6 or 7? Stockman, Stovall, and Vega are the names I know off the top of my head.

Every one of 'em is gonna take votes that will help keep Cornyn under 50%.

I believe early voting starts tuesday and I hope everyone gets out early to get the momentum going against Cornyn.

If each of Cornyn's challengers averages a little over 7% of the vote, Cornyn will go to a run-off, and that's when the real money and real fight come in.

There's a poster right here on FR that hits almost every Cornyn thread with negative crap to try to STOP the momentum. I sure wish he would get the zot.

Looks like turnout was poor at the Cornyn/Rove fundraiser and rally today in Longview, TX:

Remember, all Texas has to do is deny Cornyn a 50% + 1 vote.
And then it goes to a run-off.
And all bets are off on a run-off.

All these candidates could contribute to keeping Cornyn below 50%.
One of those candidates need to play the RINO role and draw RINO
votes from Cornyn.

“Every one of ‘em is gonna take votes that will help keep Cornyn under 50%.”

Yes, but it matters who comes in 2nd.

If it is a Cornyn/Stockman runoff, Cornyn wins the primary. Stockman is a losing proposition. He has too much bad baggage. I say go with Stovall. Stockman supporters will change to Stovall. But non Stockman supporters just won’t vote in the runoff rather than vote for Stockman. Stockman is just another sleazy politician in a club with a 6% approval rating IMHO. He will be looked upon as the same song 2nd verse. I speak as a Texan who has closely followed Texas politics over 35 years, once a republican, then a libertarian, now a secessionist, but always a conservative.

Stockman may be OK but I’ll vote for Stovall after seeing the turtle add.

Either one is better than Cornyn, and it reduces the power of the establishment.

Don't write Stockman off just yet. He could beat Cornyn. People are really tired of Cornyn.

I'll be voting for Stovall, but it's going to take all 7 challengers to keep Cornyn under 50%.

Yes! Under 50% for Cornball.

Where is Stockman, though? I’ve not seen any ads, of late. There’s been so much that he (Stockman) could’ve been capitalizing on.

He needs to get really busy.
