Wall Street Journal ^ | February 14, 2014

Posted on 02/16/2014 8:27:22 AM PST by SMGFan

The race to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan is still rated "Democratic Favored" by some Washington prognosticators, but the contest is starting to look like a toss-up.

80+ freakin years between them.

Un-freaking believable. They've stayed in power longer than Hitler, Mussolini and even the USSR.

Are we a great country or what? Where else can despots thrive and failed political, social and financial concepts of other nations be welcomed with open arms, full support and protection?

It's time to dong a dingell!

John Conyers is the second longest serving member in Congress right next door to Dingell’s district. Conyers was elected in 1964.

Thank God there’s term limits on human lifespan. Sheesh. We’d never be rid of these people.

Tell me about it. Senator “Dead Ted” Kennedy (now sober 4 years 5 1/2 months) hung on even though he knew he was dying of brain cancer. He knew, as well, that there had to be a special election since he, Dead Ted himself, had pushed the law through to keep a Republican governor from appointing replacement senators when John Fraud Kerry ran for national office. He selfishly hung on until the last possible moment.

The whole bunch of hyperannuated dementia-riddled mummies are nothing but selfish, power-drunk human waste. *spit*

(Someday, I’ll tell ya how I REALLY feel...)

Conyers worked for Dingle before running himself.

Carl Levin is 79 (will be 80 on June 28). His older brother, Sander Levin, 82, is a Congressman.

Terry Bowman, leader of the Union Conservatives is seriously considering a run for John Dingell’s seat.

It is in the press here in Michigan, but Verboten to post aka the Detroit Newspapers, however...

Terry spilled the beans last week at a Tea Party Meeting that me might throw his hat in the ring.

It is an out of the box candidacy if you research who he is.

IMHO it is big story and CrippleCreek broke a 1st if you will...

I follow Bowman on twitter and he announced that he was seriously considering a run.

I’d love to see how Dingellberry runs against a union guy.

Exactly, that is why I say it is so out of the box, IMHO it is also Deviously Delicious the ironies are many and IMHO the potential of Terry running a campaign that gets in their "OODA Loop" and has them off balance constantly is real, given some of the ideas he mentioned at his most recent public talk, or am I reading too much into what he said...

“UNION CONSERVATIVES”

Two words I never expected to see next to each other. I had to look it up to see if such an entity exists. Sure enough, here it is:

http://unionconservatives.com/What_we_Believe.html

They must be a rare species and I’m still sceptical.

Being forced into a union didn’t make me liberal. The same can be said for hundreds of thousands of other conservatives who have been forced into unions (as well as a fair number of FReepers). Polling in Michigan consistently showed that at least 40% of union members supported a right to work law.

Bowman is the real deal and has put himself on the line many times to prove it. There is video on the site of his testimony on capitol hill against union political fundraising. The Union Conservatives were heavily involved in writing the language of the Michigan RTW law to make sure the courts couldn’t overturn it

What makes me sceptical is that their stated positions on seniority, work rules, grievance procedures, union stewards, strikes, union dues and admission of the fact that job security and advancement is comes from a productive and profitable employer are missing.

It is a promising step in the right direction but I don’t see that they are opposed to unions, just opposed to closed shops. If they were serious about it they would be mounting union decertification election campaigns.

Including judges.

The larger blue district is kind of deceptive because the northern half of it is sparsely populated. Flint and Saginaw are in that district.
