The racially insensitive lunch menu chosen to celebrate Black History Month that landed a private all-girls, Catholic high school in the national media spotlight has prompted upcoming diversity training for faculty and students.
The controversial choice of fried chicken, watermelon and cornbread for lunch at Carondelet High School in Northern California sparked immediate outrage and offense when announced on the schools public address system Monday, the Contra Costa Times reported.
Principal Nancy Libby sent home two letters to parents last week apologizing for the very unfortunate incident and said a communication breakdown allowed the menu selection to be approved and announced before school officials could stop it.
Id like to apologize for this announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members, Tuesdays letter read, according to the Times. Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes, and we indeed work diligently to do just the opposite.

What race is a fried chicken?
It's so insensitive for Italian restaurants to serve pasta.

When I was a student at the University of Michigan, the dorms had an African Heritage Dinner and guess what was served? That’s right, fried chicken.

I wonder if it’s okay with the communist liberal DemocRATS for white people to like fried chicken, watermelon and cornbread. Whether it is or not, I won’t be giving them up for a bunch of bottom feeding progs any time soon.

That sounds like a delicious lunch!
I have had fried chicken, chitlins, ribs and greens all prepared by black people. I lived across the street from “Ribs’n’Bibs” AND “Harold’s Fried Chicken Shack”. This is food to be proud of.

Fried chicken, cornbread (made of white meal with no eggs or sugar), watermelon
are not black. Or African. They are Southern. How did picnic, 4th of July food, get tagged as black? Soul food is southern food. It does so happen, I have to admit, that often the tastiest southern food is to be found at restaurants owned and managed by southern black people.
Why is this such a terrible thing?

As a black person I can say this meal isn’t racially insensitive. On the fourth of July we always have watermelon, chicken etc. its good soul food.
Frankly I think slow baked chicken should replace fried. Its so much better.

RE :”

That came from moving up North.

Here is what is going on:
World Economy collapsing
Middle East about to blow at the smallest spark
US race relations deteriorating quickly
Family life is nonexistent
Young adults unable to find jobs
Older adults losing their jobs
Teenagers unable to get employment
Illegals flooding like a river across the border
Crime becoming commonplace in previously safe areas
Meanwhile, blacks are getting upset about a lunch menu.
Weird sense of priorities, yes?

Chicken, watermelon, collard greens these stereotypes of black Southern culture come from the same place where the N-word comes from, University of San Francisco professor James Taylor told NBC Bay Area. This is not like this food represents some heroic moment in African American experience. What it represents is the degradation and the sterotyping of African Americans. I wonder if Italians feel the same way about pizza?
Are Mexicans offended by enchiladas?
Would Germans object to a German History Month that featured sauerbraten?
Are Swedes embarrassed by smorgasbord?
Professor Taylor has a sign around his neck -- "I will be Offended for Hire".
