I’m in my ‘60s. Don’t EVER remember TV going off the air at 5PM.
And we were the first on the block to HAVE a TV. Mennonites all trooped over to the house at 6 pm to watch the NEWS.
Stations signed off at 11 or 12 pm.

I remember as a boy when the station signed off in Virginia. A preacher would come out on a horse and read a bible scriprure.
