San Diego is really, really bad news for Democrats
American Thinker ^ | 02/13/2014 | Thomas Lifson

San Diego, the eight-largest city in America, elected a Republican as mayor by a 9% margin that surprised all the "experts," 54.5% to 45.5%. Republican city councilman Kevin Faulconer defeated Democratic Councilman David Alvarez in a city that has been trending both Democratic and Hispanic.

There are two hard lessons for the Democrats here in the election.

Lesson one, as noted by John Fund of NRO,

"..the vaunted Obama election model - flood the zone with negative attack ads and excite the base of the Democratic party - flopped. Faulconer defeated fellow City Council member David Alvarez by nine points in a city that Barack Obama carried by 63 percent to 37 percent only 15 months ago.

Democrats were stunned at the margin. In the November open primary, Democrats had won 54 percent of the ballots cast and were convinced they could win the runoff between Faulconer and Alvarez.

In the wake of Obamacare's very public and ongoing disaster, it is going to be harder for Democrats to excite their base and drive turnout. With a key mid-term election this year, that is terrible news for the Democrats. The election (and re-election) of The First Black President is no longer on the table. The best the Democrats can come up with in 2014 and 2016 is going to be demonization of the GOP, their perennial means of asking voters to ignore their own shortcomings."

People are sick of the Demsocrat/Progressive failures—and they only place to protest is the GOP. Now we must make this a time to charge—and hope its not like the Charge of the Light Brigade or Picketts Charge.

[This means, essentially, that there IS NO LAW.]

Michael Cannon in a House Judiciary committee hearing said:

“That is certainly something that no one wants to contemplate. If the people come to believe that the government is no longer constrained by the laws, then they will conclude that neither are they.”

Cannon said it is “very dangerous” for the president to “wantonly ignore the laws, to try to impose obligations upon people that the legislature did not approve.”

Cannot read too much into this particular election. SD has a long history of electing GOP mayors.

The primary source of GOP weakness in recent decades is its miserable performance in nearly all of the nation’s major metropolitan areas. A trend which needs to reversed if the Party wants to start winning presidential elections.

It should also be noted that off year and midterm elections are very different from presidential election years. The turnout is generally lower, the voters more committed, the electorate somewhat whiter and older than is the case in presidential elections, therefore more Republican leaning.

Oh really? What happened in Virginia?

The GOP hung Cuccinelli out to dry. I don't think they would have acted any differently than if they had been secretly working for a McAuliffe victory.

The sad truth, I’m sorry to say, is that VA has been trending blue. BHO carried the state twice. The state as two liberal Dem US Senators. The huge increase in the size of the federal government and a huge increase of liberals in Northern VA has no doubt contributed to this trend.

See? This is why we have to get people like Cornyn and McConnell in a run-off and the rest will be history.

Cuccinelli lost by a couple of percentage points. If he didn’t have the rug pulled out from under him and if the GOP controlled state government had cracked down on Democrat vote fraud then Cuccinelli would have won easily. The GOP would rather lose to the Democrat than allow a conservative to win.

While not as large as San Diego but still a major city, Fresno has elected a string of Republican mayors over the past couple of decades. Among them was actor Alan Autry. The current Republican mayor Ashley Swearengin won with 55% in her first election and was re-elected to her second term with 75%. Interestingly, Fresno actually has a higher percentage of Hispanics than does San Diego (47% vs. 29%).

The Democrats ran against Herbert Hoover until the 1960s. To a great degree, that tactic worked, as they held onto the White House for five election cycles and controlled the Senate from 1932 to 1980, and the House from 1930 to 1994

Everyone in America...especially the Pubbies ought to CHAMPION these facts...!!

What has happened to America from the 30's to the 90's????
