Republicans in the Senate are struggling to come up with the five votes they'd need to ensure passage on Wednesday of a House bill raising the debt ceiling.
The measure is likely to win support from the upper chamber's 53 Democrats and the two Independents that caucus with Democrats.
But only one Republican, Sen. Mark Kirk (Ill.), has so far said he would back the bill.
The measure needs 60 votes because Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is filibustering the bill over the lack of spending reforms attached to it.
Kirk told The Hill the vote would be close.
I think its narrow," he said.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is expected to vote yes but told The Hill she was not prepared to announce her position on Wednesday morning.

“Pryor is voting no, so the GOP has to come up with six votes to help Reid.”
Pryor trying to cover his liberal *ss since he is in a tough race because of Obamcare.
“I dont think Graham or Alexander will vote for cloture. Theyd be surrendering their seats during the primary.”
*******************************************************************
I think you’re right. Graham is already almost “toast”. If he votes for closure he’ll be “burnt toast”.
Vote was
67 yea
31 nay
2 not voting
Here comes the BOHICA America, promoted by the RINO Brigade of the quislings in congress.
I agree. A tactical withdrawl on the debt ceiling and budget/spending is acceptable in this case because it allows the political focus to be kept on the damage being inflicted by Obamacare.
The Dems have shown that they can hurt Republicans with the debt ceiling and budget/spending. But the Dems OWN Obamacare. Enabling a big political distraction from Obamacare between now and the election, ones that have already been shown to hurt Republicans, is insanity.
McCaskill doesn’t want Nero near her campaign but she supports his Credit Card expenditures with no max out.
Must Be McCain was told he’d get no more overseas Administrative Junket Freebees if he voted against it.

You miss the point why conservatives are so upset. The main problem isn’t caving this particular time. The issue is that there is never a good time to substantively engage obama according to the GOP leadership.
There is no focus on anything from the GOP. We have sitting GOP member insulting fellow GOP members as “morons” on TV today. Boehner does nothing. McCain does similar. McConnell does nothing.
There is no message focus in the beltway GOP. Saying just pass the debt limit and we will focus on obamacare is a false choice. It isn’t going to happen. All we will get is more of the same. Big talk and no action.
With boner stabbing us in the back and his little demonic pet peter king calling those that stand against tyranny... morons... I think that you can kiss that rino dream of a November win for the republican party goodbye. They are doing EVERYTHING in their power to stop any thinking Conservative from supporting any republican for reelection. Without the CONSERVATIVE BASE voting... the rats will win everything... hell... they are winning everything today.
It has enough votes to pass.
The GOPe is purposely handing a big win to the Dems. The MSM will declare ObamaCare “vindicated” too
Of course and most of these RINOS who voted for cloture will vote against the bill.
Well, I think they actually took big action back in October 2013. So after the MSM and others were done, tell me just how well did they do? It looked to me like certain people in the GOP sold conservatives a bill of goods back in October, 2013 and as it turned out they whipped the base up knowing there would be a loss and sure enough there was a political loss.
You actually think it is wise from a political point of view to touch the third rail again? I sure don’t.
Right now there is a big spilt in the house GOP with many not willing to raise the debt ceiling at all while others want to use it to get other issues solved. That is a big problem as well.
Finally, the GOP only has control of one part of the branch of government. It has to get control of more branches of the government and has to unite on various issues.
“Hey, I just thought of something; those two clowns are from neighboring states.”
Yeah, there must be something in the water. Maybe they can get together with Scott Brown and do a layout in some magazine. He has prior experience.
“He’s been there about as long as McC, and people in KY are so uninformed that don’t know either of their records. “
Kentucky has the initials “KY.” I guess they use that product (KY Jelly) on their hind ends to let McConnell “ease it in!”
Senator Graham, from UPI:
"Am I going to vote for it? Hell no!" Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said. "Isn't there some middle ground between defaulting on our debt and doing nothing to address our fiscal problems?"

You had your chance back in October, Lindsey, and you stuck a knife in Ted Cruz's back, and by extension, knives in the backs of Tea Partiers.

Boehner has admitted he did not believe in the fight during the shut down. You don’t win when your Generals don’t want to fight.
The GOP is divided and facing the united Dems. The GOP allows freelancing progressives to distract from the party message. The Dems are always executing a game plan and do not allow any deviation from the message of the week. Guess who wins?
Yes they will.
