How they voted: 1 Michigan Republican voted for 'clean' debt ceiling bill (Dave Camp)

The Republican-controlled U.S. House passed a bill to extend the nation's debt ceiling without any conditions until March 2015.

The bill passed 221 to 201 on Tuesday, with only 28 Republicans voting yes and two Democrats voting no. Of those 28 Republicans, one was from Michigan: U.S. Rep Dave Camp, R-Midland.

The vote comes after several years of political debate about raising the debt ceiling. Republicans have wanted to cut spending and not raise the amount of money the nation can borrow while Democrats have said it's important for the country's financial standing to continue to fund previously made obligations.

This bill is considered "clean" because there are no conditions on which to raise the debt ceiling.

The bill now heads to the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Camp said in his floor statement that he felt like Democrats did not negotiate with Republicans on the issue but voted to raise the debt ceiling to avoid default.

"I am disappointed we are not engaged in a more serious debate today," Camp said. "But for as disappointed as I am, I cannot in good conscience let the Democrats refusal to engage lead to a default."

First off, thank you Tim Walberg for not voting for this.

As for Dave Camp, he has a challenger in the primary. Peter Konetchy for Congress. Peter's a small businessman from my old stomping grounds in Roscommon on the border of the district. I met him once but I don't know him. Those I know who do know him have nothing but good things to say about him. From what I hear, he's a good honest guy.

That’s great to hear from Camp. Now he can go back to doing nothing about the IRS abuse of conservatives.

If anyone has time, please post the roll call for this vote, I'd like to know how my guy voted. I've seen another post this morning and his name was on it for not opposing immigration reform.
