"Gimmie a couple of minutes to coral the dogs and the gate will open."
"So what's the problem deputy?" As a second cruiser rolled into the drive.
"Y'all don't need to stand out in the rain come on up on the porch."
"We got a complaint that truck ran someone off the road and blew a loud air horn!" Now it is all I can do at this point to not laugh out loud.
"That would be my daughter driving the rig." "She's around here somewhere," and I call her on the cell.
Now I know damn well my daughter would not have behaved as indicated without just cause and my bride had been with her when she recently returned from the vets office with three horses in the trailer. You don't just stop a forty foot trailer because some goob pulls out in front of you, push comes to shove you hit the offender while easing onto the brakes.
"Hey kiddo, there's a couple of deputies here want to talk to you." "I'm busy at the stable, send them up here." That's my fierce little girl all 100lbs of her. So the deputies slog several hundred yards out to the stable while I bring the wife up to speed and send her after them. I'm the last one to get the story.
Local fellow was tending the roadside memorial to his son who had been killed as a pedestrian very recently. Perhaps overcome by tears or emotion he had pulled out onto the road and encountered my daughter and about 9 tons of rolling inertia. Transference of those emotions onto the great big speeding rig that ran him off the road and blew a loud horn at him resulted in the call to 911.
Had coffee ready for the deputies as they slogged back from the stable and we sat on the porch while they brought me up to speed on the events. Meanwhile the friends and family of the deceased rolled back and forth in front of my property. The deputies said they would report back to the 911 caller and I said I would contact him myself in a day or two. I spent the night on high watch and armed. Contacted the 911 caller later and we are friends now. Pretty daughter went on a date or two with the younger deputy.
glad your encounter went well
