I don't think Button was gay, but he was without a doubt the most negative commentator I've ever heard. I don't care what the skater did, how perfect he/she was... he always, always had some critical statement -- the music was wrong, the costume was dull, the landing was marred, the smile was missing. It wasn't just objective pointing out of mistakes; he seemed to revel in the nit-pick. Peggy Fleming was the sidekick for him and she was forever trying to find a silver lining in all of his gratuitous rainclouds.

I always thought Button was the inspiration for “Johnny” in the Airplane movies...

“Where did you get that dress, it’s awful, and those shoes and that coat, jeeeeez!”
