Dennis Rodman checking himself into an alcohol rehabilitation center upon returning from a trip to North Korea was the first news all over the U.S. media, but at that time, he confirmed only to the fact that he is an addict and has never recovered from the habit.
But according to a report cited by Free North Korea Radio, he was practically forced out of the hermit kingdom for his full-blown drunk and disorderly behavior.
“Rodman was drunk the whole week of his stay. And the night before he left for the U.S., he was drunk unconscious, and vomited everywhere he turned. He even urinated and emptied the bowels in the hallway,” said the source.
Workers and managers of the Koryo Hotel who witnessed the scene and had to clean the mess were reportedly at a loss for words at such barbaric and uncivilized behavior.
North Korean authorities were told of the incident and tried to contain the story from spreading like a wild fire.
The obvious reason being shame: that taints the reputation of their Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un’s ability and discretion to screen people.
“The stench was just horrible and people are criticizing not only Rodman, but also Kim Jong-un saying that ‘No one in a right mind would be a friend with Rodman. An animal that he is,’” the source said.
Rodman was reportedly asked out of the country with a warning “Never will you be welcome here without the completion of your alcohol abuse treatment program,” the source said.
I am old enough to have grown up when Civil Rights was just gaining steam, and have watched the 180-degree turn that is giving me whiplash. In the 50s-60s, African-American leaders stressed the common humanity of whites and blacks, and motivated blacks tried to become skilled or educated in order to join the American mainstream. Persons of color who behaved with dignity were actually referred to as being "a credit to his (her) race." Shelby Steele wrote about his black father as someone who, as a responsible working class dad, sought to be a good "race man." Most black Americans went to church, as did most white Americans. African-American culture heroes were people like George Washington Carver, W.E.B duBois, Frederick Douglass and others who stressed education and self-reliance.
Fast forward 50-60 years, and the filthy language, the gross sexual displays, the overwhelming rate of illegitimacy, and entitled attitudes of the black underclass must have their great-grandparents spinning in their graves and the black middle class wringing their hands. Black friends of mine who are my age are often in deep despair over their grandkids.
In its effort not to make blacks feel excluded, virtually any and all behavior that offends is thought of as "authentically black" when it is done by today's culture heroes, like rappers, sports millionaires and media personalities.
I think it’s quite an achievement on Rodman’s part...getting himself kicked out of North Korea. Not everybody can do that. Just ask the people who live there.
