Nothing short of MASS deportations would save us now, and the chance of that happening is nearly zero. No, if our immigration program looked like this:
- secure the border in a transparently verifiable way;
- end the anchor-baby interpretation of the 14th Amendment;
- enforce eVerify without exception and with severe penalties;
- no government benefits beyond critical emergency care (and that ought to be billed back to the Mexican government); and
- NO "Path to Citizenship" - ever - for anyone who has entered the US illegally.
they would leave on their own for greener pastures; no need to round them up. But, considering the likelihood of this program being enacted and enforced, I agree with your initial assertion -
We are honestly ... screwed..

What you said. I’ve been saying the same thing. The anchor baby interpretation would be the hardest part of it because of so many court rulings assuming that illegal babies are citizens based on a misinterpretation of the “subject to the jurisdiction” language. We’d need a Supreme Court ruling (that is not likely), or a law (that might be thrown out), and, failing that, an amendment. Add it to Levin’s proposal.
