Oh I was ‘there’. I was there when a 3 star told us they thought NK was ready to come across the DMZ and to expect 75% causalities.
There is no strong nation today, just a bunch of fairly strong ones and a weakly led US. Add in a bunch of smaller very nervous countries who are trying to protect themselves and their resources.

If Japan is attacked, Kerry will condemn the action in the strongest terms. China better watch out, considering what Obama did to the nerve gassers in Syria and the murderers in Benghazi.

The world is not in a room filled with gasoline while the two sides hold matches, like it was.

No its in a room filled with death worshipers holding lit matches while a couple of semi-sane people argue about meaningless trivia.

Now, let’s see...
Obama promised to defend Israel.
He has made Israel an international pariah.
Obama promised to defend Iraq.
He didn’t.
Obama promised to defend Afghanistan.
He hasn’t.
Now Obama is making more promises about America’s protection. Does anyone believe Obama?
I certainly don’t! Why does anyone?

That is the problem. China might put zero to the test. What would zero lose? He doesn’t care about our military. we have Iran heading for the coast on the atlantic. China could easily test us in the pacific. Where do our made in China loyalties lie? Lay? whichever.

Not at all, the world is calmer than it was during the Cold War, and small wars don’t equal the sword of total destruction that was hanging over civilization when the stand off was between the free world and the communist world.

I’d take commies over jahadi’s any day. You also overlook hindsight. Turns out the commies didn’t believe in self destruction and the jahadis do..

It seems that everyone has forgotten the Cold War already, and all the millions of deaths and constant wars, and the ever present possibility of instant nuclear annihilation of civilization, and even nuclear winter.
Even our peacetime losses for the military, numbered in the thousands annually.

Nope, I didn't - thanks for letting me know about it.
I just looked it up. The US successfully pressured Japan into returning 300kg of very high-grade, British-made plutonium. Supposedly used in testing new reactor technology, but enough to manufacture 40-50 nuclear weapons.
However Japan retains 44 TONS of lesser-grade plutonium. No mention of whether it's weapons grade or not (I can't remember if plutonium is weapons-grade at all levels, unlike Uranium which needs to be refined), but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. Or if, at some point in the last 50-60 years the US provided the technical information and support necessary for Japan to have a turn-key nuke-building operation (sort of like what we allegedly did in helping the Israelis)
