I support work permits for some illegals. I do not support an altered path of citizenship for illegals. American citizenship should be of the highest value. If we give illegals amnesty, we devalue the worth of our citizenship and we undermine the rule of law. The excerpt you provided about Rand Paul conflicts with my own views. If he persists in this notion which suggests a general amnesty, he will not have my support. So far, I have not seen any acceptable candidates. In real terms, there can be no perfect candidate. However, there are certain positions that are not negotiable to me. The legal pursuit of American citizenship is one that is non-negotiable. Other non-negotiable positions to me include:

1. Fiscal responsibility
2. Reduced taxes/reformed taxation
3. Strong military, (We can still cut the budget though)
4. Reduced size of federal government, increased states rights and
individual liberty
5. Increased personal freedom, less government control
6. Stricter adherence to the US Constitution
(all provisions are important, but I am especially concerned about
the 1st and 2nd Amendments)
7. No amnesty. The US government must protect and defend our border. This one of the primary missions of the federal government.

I agree with that sentiment.

America has benefited many times from waves of immigration, and I have not problem with legal immigrants who want to come here and become Americans themselves.

I do not accept the idea of allowing those who have violated our borders to stay here and enjoy the benefits of citizenship. But, unfortunately, there are those in power in both parties who don’t mind ceding parts of the US to Mexico.

Anyone who does not realize that Mexico launched a full scale bloodless invasion of the US years ago has not been paying attention.
