With the onset of severely cold weather in recent weeks, propane supplies in the Midwest are extremely tight. Information related to the current propane situation is available below.
Be interesting to see a similar graph with prices.
i went over to the local gas station to get my propane bottle filled for the heater i was using to thaw my frozen water pipes but they said their propane pump was froze up
Yep.
AC repair was a melted wire. Woo hoo have a/c again. (SFL)
Dehumidifier is running to catch up though. Get a gallon or so every few days in the bin.
Thursday it was 15 below but today it is 37 above—HEAT WAVE.
Hopefully the really cold weather has passed. I’m sure I had hypothermia by the time I got the water back on.
We made it up to 18 today. The average high this time of year is 35.
It looks like the next ten days are going to be average or slightly above in the 35 range.
Think how bad the effects would be if propane were also to be a major source of motor fuel. Is there a way to expand both the production of propane and the storage capacity for control of future fluctuations in supply and demand? Unlike natural gas, propane remains liquid under modest pressurization, thus requiring a smaller volume to contain a specific number of BTU’s.
The big affect has been caused by colder, snowier, windier weather across the larger part of the USA this year.

Okay, that reminded of something:
I went to the dam to get some dam water. But the dam keeper said I couldn’t have any dam water so I told the dam keeper to keep his dam water.
Just because...
NE Pennsy is a long way from the mid west but my local hardware store jacked the price on a grill tank refill $4.00 last week!
In Northern Michigan, the price for propane is $5.00 a gallon. That’s for a bulk, fill the pig gallon.
Ours went from $2.00 gal. to $2.80 gal.
we are on a budget plan...and in June our price for the next year gets locked in...we just filled two weeks ago...200 gal.and the company now has a DELIVERY FEE... and it has gone up three times in one year!~!!! get you one way or another..
...and propane accessories.
Before the cold weather, the Midwest propane storage had the biggest single week draw-down in over 20 years. It had an effect. It was the first domino in a string of several.
I don't doubt that.
What I have a problem believing is that crop drying had anything to do with it.
I work, on an everyday basis, with farmers, grain storage bin fans, dryers, etc.
The crops were not unusually moist this year, they didn't harvest any earlier than average, so they wouldn't have needed to dry any more than average.
The one week draw down, in my opinion, was people filling their propane tanks while the price was cheaper to stock up for the winter.
There you go again with the facts...
