And why not? They are American citizens first -- by virtue of being American for generations or investing the effort and expense of jumping thru all the legal immigration hoops. They don't want their citizenship cheapened any more than we Anglos do.

Which is why mischaracterizations of the motives of people who oppose illegal immigration as anti-hispanic bigots such as the Bush family is constantly spouting is so utterly loathsome. It drives otherwise friendly hispanic allies into the opposition's arms.
